Just got my m17x (and love it). My sepcs are 260M SLI, 4gig ram 1333, and quad core 2ghtz processor (q9000).
Based on this, what would be the recommended video graphic settings for wow that I should use?
Currently I have everything maxed out except shadows (which have have at 50%... the second notch). I noticed generally FPS between 30 and 40, with ocasional higher values depending on where i am. But also, thew old dreaded dalaran brings my FPS for almost 20%.
So i am wodnering if there are any optimal settings i should be using for this game on my new rig![]()

MAx
No shadows
if it runs Choppy disable SLI -
Max everything out, it will run splendidly. Some people turn off shadows because they don't like them but thats your preference. I have all the settings maxed on my M17 and it runs fine. I do have AA off though, at 1920x 1200 res.
-EDIT-
DARNIT MOO you beat me! -
-
at the expense of sounding really dumb... why would i disable SLI... isn't the whole thing abotu the m17x the fact that i can run 2 vid cards at once? Anyways... following this path... by disabling, you mean going and using the 9400 integrated card (hence clicking the "i/dgfx" key?) or you mean going to bios and setting some settings?
-
Because wow technically doesn't utilize SLI and it can sometimes interfere with the game playing right. Your one GPU will scream though WoW anyway as it was written with lower GPU's in mind. You disable SLI in the nVidia Control Panel
-
No i mean only use one of your 260's
WoW has issues with SLI but i don't know if they fixed them -
Well I do get the xfire logo when i run the game with that feature turned on, so they may have...
-
Xfire has ALWAYS worked pretty good SLI is another Story
Since i have been here, i have heard of SLI issues .... So i unno, the only way to test is to run with SLI on and SLI off and use FRAPS to monitor -
Yeah, thats what I was going to say for all the people that say theyre having probs with xfire and wow.
right click on your ati logo in ur tray and find "show xfire logo where applicable" or whatever it says lol.
Im sure SLI has the same thing. -
It's WoW... It's not Crysis. The game isn't meant to be graphically impressive. You can max out the settings with almost any GPU. I just recently stopped using my 7-year-old Dell desktop (and stopped playing WoW), and I used to play on max settings with nothing but lag issues. My GPU was a Radeon 9600 p.o.s. lol
-
Ok, i went to the nvidia control pannel and i got the option to disable the physx engine, but the one to disable SLI is greyed out... any ideas on how to work around this?
-
Did you only get one card?
i know you said SLI but im just making sure -
And im sure your 7 yr dell can run it. It doesnt matter because NO ONE CARES IF IT CAN RUN IT.
I would like to see it in a raid at 1920x1200 max settings. is it just net lag then? -
Nope. I actually hace SLi enabled... i sjut do not have the option to disable it
Its like the control panel is saying... you got SLI... and you will sue it wether you like it or not
let me see if i can post a pic... jsut have to figure out how to do it in these forums (rememebr newbie member here) -
-
isnt sli disabled through the driver?
-
Well I have all my settings maxed except for shadow detail. dont like them.
I have it one notch up for shadow.
(vertical sync enabled for all results)
Dal nets me 27-40 FPS (walking around )
Anywhere else nets me 60 fps
No issues in 5 man party
10 man with lots of aoe 40-55 fps
25 man 29-38 fps with heavy aoe
40 man just did that last night completing "for the alliance" and with all the aoe going on I had 9-12 fps -
Thats what my sli disabled geature looks like... its greyed out -
But he is right in saying that the GPU does not matter very much. As long as our computer has enough memory space to handle everything a WoW raid can throw at it, then the GPU should almost be a non-issue.
As for SLi interfering with the performance, based on what I know, I don't see why it should. However, if you CAN turn SLi off, a single 260m could certainly handle WoW on max settings just fine, and you'd eliminate the chance of interference. The only problem is: I don't know what to tell you about not having an option to turn it off, ricard.
EDIT: Try disabling the first option? See if it un-greys the 2nd option. -
seems i get the same performance specs from kilthro.
So i guess i am good... maybe sli is not the issue.... but now i wodner why i cant switch off sli. Well no worries -
Kilthro's specs are legit, and certainly what to expect. With vsync on (which is recommended btw) you won't see much more then 60fps in WoW. vsync kicks in at this point.
Did you try to disable Physx and see if it ungrey's the SLI feature? -
yup, tried disabling it, and no luck
-
Its Dalaran not your video card or settings. I have a desktop pc with a 280gtx and I get the same frame rate as you. You have to remember there are over 60+ people in town at any given time there and the graphics are a lot better compared to being in Org or any other non WotLK town. Also another thought, if your server is a high populated one then that will be an added factor to it as well. I hope that helps you now go back out there and kill some more alliance gnomes!!!!! damn ankle biters!!!!
-
of all the races you had to pick on, you had to select the ONLY character I HAVE... and allaince gnome mage
talk about deadly accuracy in your part

Update... i checked with the original factory drivers... and i am able to shut down sli with those.
Yet, if i use the new BETA drivers, i am nto able to shut SLI. Maybe someone else who is using those drivers might want to confirm this with me? Or perhaps recomend me better drivers to use?
Also, i checked that the new drivers did not work correctly with the game prince of persia... but i recall the gamne working prior to me installing the beta drivers. Having the hybrid/physx sli thing is proving to be a real headache for me
m17x user has WOW question
