This subject seems to keep popping up at the moment, many people are asking the same question so i though i'd try and help?

I have been told by Frank that the m17x will NOT have Montevina and also other members have also been told this but, it seems people are not reading through the threads and are still asking about it. With this in mind i emailed Alienware Uk and asked them... the response is below...

    Thank you for contacting Alienware.

The Area-51 m17x in the UK will feature the Santa Rosa platform. There is no information as to if the m17x will be upgraded to the Montevina platform, although the Montevina platform is currently under testing and development but we cannot assure as to when this will be available.

Please keep visiting our UK website every now and then or subscribe to their newsletter to stay informed of the most recent updates. If you need further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

So there you have. For any new members or those who are yet to ask, you now don't have to... :)

For everyone elseo, it seems Alienware are testing "Monty" so we may see the next generation of Area-51's using Montevina... The truth is out there...Somewhere....

Thanks for that Oodle bear. Interesting read. I just wish there was a laptop company who made sexy looking laptops with the same power as Alienware then who the hell would go to them?

If I had enough money I would start up my own laptop company with a good friend who knows a **** load about laptops also. Since I don't have enough money I'm starting a web design / (other design) company with my friend. I figure it will be good since we are both real competitive and it will look real nice on our college aps.

Ummmmm Santa Rosa????? The M15x/M17x are both running the Penryn core processors. I would question a source that doesn't even know what platform the current production model is running.

Um dude, the m15x and m17x are running the Santa Rosa platforms but have Penryn processors. Just like the Montevina will ALSO have penryn processors too.

Thank you for your concern, Santa Rosa Platform refers to the motherboard etc. See - Santa Rosa Platform Wiki
The term Penryn refers to the specific type of processors it can utilise.

The Montivena platform also utilises Penryn processors although there are a new type that are designed specifically for Monty, these are a smaller size, have less power consumption and produce less heat than the current types.

None of this however will be used in the m17x...
(Or that's what they tell me  )

    Hope this helps
