gentlemen, i wish to swap out my q9000 for a different CPU, preferably dual core with as high a clock as possible

just wondering what're my options, or would the following cpu i have in my desktop work: http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=338084

dont want to try installing it before asking, as i've seen Moo's video on changing the cpu, seems painful!!

    X9100 or T9900 are the highest Dual-Core Options @ 3.06 Ghz Stock.
Desktop CPU's WILL NOT WORK in a laptop.

sometimes they do, depends on the notebook though.

Why not keep the quad and just overclock it?

The proc he showed is a Conroe processor. The M17x (which I think he's referring to based on his comment about Moo's installation video) uses a Monteniva processor.

yes this one will not take a desktop CPU. I was just saying that some notebooks can.

cheers marvie, will check them out

i've already overclocked it to it's maximum of 2.4ghz =[

edit: damn that x9100 is pricey! are there processors with lower stock clock speeds that can be overclocked to the 3ghz region?

edit#2: actually, think i've found it decently priced for £209/€242

If you're going to spend that amount of money, you might as well buy a qx9300. You can get an ES off ebay for i think 550 now (some reason the price went up the last week) or a OEM from HP at about 450-460 after all is said and done. US dollars.

Get a t960o it will over clock to 3.3 ghz and will perform the same as an x9100 for cheap :)

I sold my P9600 for $200 a few months ago, you can get a T9600 for the same or less, I'd presume. Make sure you get at least 6MB cache, whatever you choose.
