I found scattered bits in various threads about the overclocking potential, but no solid data so far. One of the very nice features of the R1 was the ability to overclock a good amount, stable or not. I saw from a bios screen shot you are able to overclock the m17x-R2, has anyone done this yet? How much are you able to overclock? By the initial look it was only 5%, which is pretty inconsequential.

On a side note, I have contacted alienware/dell twice about the overclocking potential and both times was given wrong information, they keep referring to the turbo boost feature which is highly irritating, way to know the product dell!

speaking to an alienware/dell sales rep isnt going to get you anywhere. call alienware tech support and just say you dont have your service tag/express service code.

speaking of the 5% bios overclock, does anyone know if its only applicable to the i7 920XM processor or if its available to all i7 processors?

Remember it's likely that AW releases a BIOS in the near future that allows for futher OC.

And then also remember that the entire notebookreview community counts on Mandrake to tell us how to OC further... :)

Check out the ***Official M17x Benchmark Thread - Part 3*** for the discussion. It's pretty detailed. Check out part 2 for more focus on the M17X R1. Linked in the original post. Part three focuses on the R2 since it is the new toy in town. Mandrake already has the high laptop score in the 3DMark06 period.
