    Hi,
My m5550 has a dud power supply, but I've found a very similar looking one from an old HP laptop with a Compaq power supply. The connector is the same, they are both 90W supplies, but the other specs differ slightly:
    m5550:
    Output: 20V @ 4.5A
    HP/Compaq:
    Output: 18.5V @ 4.9A

Do you think that the Compaq supply would work with the m5550, even though it supplies 0.4A more at 1.5V less? Is there any risk of damaging my laptop by trying it? Should I try charging the battery with the laptop off to avoid overpowering the laptop components?

    Thanks.

you should always go for an original power supply or one designed for it
