I have a Alienware m5550 and have had problems with it ever since I bought it. Long story short there is no warranty and I think my graphics card fried. I tried putting XP pro x64 on the laptop at one point and then suddenly the screen went black. I put XP hope 32-bit back on it in hopes that this would fix it. It didnt. It starts up and then get a black screen after the loading bar of windows. If I go into safe mode and disable the graphics card it starts up in safe mode just fine but I still have weird colors showing up on my screen. It obviously runs horrible with the on board graphics with the card disabled. I took a picture of the wierd colors I get on startup and on setup screens. Could it just be the graphics card or is something else out of wack? http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x212/Cyberbomb87/370324708_1277260027_0.jpg <--Note the orange and white alternating colors. What could this mean? Its on all setup screens and install screens.

sounds like your GPU is bust. you can get an 8600m-gt as a replacement from mxm-upgrade.com.

Hi ZaneMasterX, I have the same problem with the Geforce Go 7600 too, but it's MXM type II. And the ATi X1800 Mobility in that link is MXM type III. How would it fit in my Alienware Area51 M5550. Have you tried it before? If you check out the link below, you'll see the MXM type III is a little bigger than the one I have. Thanks!
