This is the biggest problem I am having. My Alienware's right speaker was shipped busted or something. The sound out of it sounds superb when playing games, but when a low-tone sound is played (grenade going off) or when listening to audio with bass - it makes a crackle sound (horrible sound by the way). Now I know there is a sub on the bottom right of the laptop also. I'm not sure if it is that causing the problem. I called tech support a day after I got it and they told me that I would have to send it in for three weeks (which is absolutely ridiculous - for god sake, i just paid $4,350 for a laptop and it's broken on arrival - three weeks, please tell me I misunderstood).
Also when i turn the audio up close to full, the numpad keys raddle (bad design?). Anyone else having this problem - can the numpad keys be "tightened". This problem kinda ruins any music listening experience. It's super noticeable. I can't send my computer in just yet because of school - any suggestions.

dang man. when you play music its always gonna be ridiclous loud) compared to playing a (movie) and when you do play a movie does it make same noise? the sub w00fer gives you a vibrating type (noise) that you hear in cars) it comes on time to time i doubt it would be that if you hear the crackle when subwoofer is not on? does its always do the crackle) or time to time. ive not yet payed attention to the num pad i'll let you know when i get a chance. i never hear a crackle sound when throwing gernades and stuff (dang alienware) does the left speaker sound normal compared to the right? try to play a movie and listen if the speakers ruin anything. ( in movie the subwoofer usaully doesent come on unless intense action....so it shouldent be anything out of the ordinary except the movie words.)
update: ok i checked the num padd*movement* i was playing battlefield 2 max out volume was pretty darn loud) and didnt really see any movement in the num pad? did you try moving the num padd keys with your own hand? and did it wiggle? cause mine arent
very little side movement not enough for speaker to do that hmmm. -

Yeah i did that and the subwoofer) was on like almost the whole time. i didnt see any movement in the numpad. or crackle. or u talking about that vibration you feel on the right side? like static type? that is the subwoofer noise coming from the numpad) where power button is.

it's kinda sad how alienware ships a 4,000 labtop out broken. if i was a person checking labtops id make sure every single thing works least check the speakers
-
Thats disgusting alright, spending that amount of money and waiting that long for a broken piece of metal...
Nobodys perfect though at the same time
Ring them up and see if you can get something free or a discount, tell them you might just go to another company for a laptop and you might ask for a refund, they usually then throw out something extra for the incovienence as a bribe -
And this is why you should avoid this company as much as possible.....PEOPLE do you research!!!!!!!! unacceptable for that amount of money!!!
-
Well not all the labtops come broken. when you got a labtop thats not broken it really is insane. all companys are like this. but they should be more aware of problems before shipment. this is how it goes when its something straight from the factory. these are great gaming rigs. just harsh when you pay the money and gotta fight for them to fix something with warranty but pfft every company is like this. but out of like 100 people with no problems just that one unlucky m9750
-
i also had problems with my m9750,with raid, and they refused to give me a new one, they asked if i wanted my money back (but i kept it with non raid)
-
I guess non raid isn't that big of a deal. Raid will only help in some applications that take advantage of how fast a HD can load stuff (mmo's). However, with FPS, it shouldn't matter how fast your HD is. It may load faster, but it shouldn't make a huge difference.
The only thing that I think is better about non-raid is that you can load your games onto one hard drive, then do your video editing, or other things that will fragment your HD on the other one. -
thats why i kept it but when i pay 3500euros ($4600) for a notebook i want NO problem (and i had to reinstall 15times!!!!!!)
-
I have noticed this on other music-mps's in particular that have lower sampling rates. Lower sampling rates (<196kbs) sometime produce audible harmonic distortion in digital music.
I am not sure if your crackle is much worse than that that I heard - if it is, then it could very well be your speakers. If you have a pair of headphones, try listening to the same music through them and see if you still get the crackle.
There is a slight vibration on the keys when I turn the volume up but it is not audible and can only be detected when touching the keys (very slight). -
So its more acceptable to order a 250$ PC from dell and then get it broken? Please. If you did your research you'd realise that every company in the world ships something broken, I think 1 in 1000 motorola phones are faulty etc. -
Yeah, its really a silly concept to say that price links directly to "lack of problems". There are tons of factors that determine price.
I work on audio and computer equipment that all cost WAY more than these laptops. All of the equipment has problems all the time. Some of it comes shipped with problems. In fact, a 5000 dollar recording microphone sometimes is less reliable than a 200 dollar one, but there are other reasons you want the 5000 dollar one - that has nothing to do with reliability.
Only the test of time will show how good or bad these computers are. A fraction of the people here may post a problem - that may or may not be a manufacturing defect - and isnt that why were all paying the extended warranty? - seems silly for anyone to pay a 3 year warranty and then say their laptop sucks cause they had to use it.
And the people here are only a fraction of 9750 users and not a very accurate representation of the larger whole.
I work in audio post production and sometimes have to do quality control for something leaving our facility. I do my best but sometimes things are missed cause the company - and the client wanting the material wants it under a certain cost and within a certain degree of efficiency and time. (not to even mention human error) All companies do this. So I may have to monitor too many things at once within a time period that makes it difficult to really hear everything (every potential problem). There are problems all the time or things that leave our place, and get rejected by the next place cause a problem is found. We are one of the biggest places doing top TV shows and believe me, its not cheap to have work done there. But limitations always lead to occasional problems. If you ever see an audio glitch on TV, you can assume it went through at least several QC stages before being aired. Sometimes theres still problems.
You cant expect that these people at Alienware run tests on every laptop the way YOU hope they do. It takes time and money and they probably do something that is economical to them and results in a certain percentage of success. If there are 3% of the systems shipped out with problems, but the next step in QC to eliminate that 3% is in no way economical cause it would take way too many man hours, then its perhaps cheaper to deal with returns when they come in than make 100% success rates in QC. ESPECIALLY with the money they make by us buying 3 year warranties.
In ANY of these companies, its about the bottom line, not 100% problem free shipments of product - no matter what the price. Alienware may have some of the most expensive machines, but may have one of the lowest profit margins - and the least ability to spend more to reacy 100% success in shipped product with no problems. -
Nice.....duh! we're not talking of motorola here (dumb analogy) enk!!....and have you ever experience AW's customer support when you're really having a big issue with their hardware?????? anyway, its your money spend it the way you want
-
c'mon man!!!!! why don't you guys finish this thread with AN ANSWER OR A SOLUTION OR AN UPDATE ON WHAT HAPPENED???!!
i too have this exact same problem!
i do not think anything is lose. i think it has something to do with a bad / faulty onboard audio system that requires a new motherboard since it is soldered on. i have tested this with headphones and even hooked it up to my 5.1 home theatre system through optical cable and the vibration-rattle-distortion thingy is still there!
at first i thought i had a bad subwoofer on the laptop. then i noticed the rattle comming from the left speaker as well, slightly.
so have you guys found a solution or called tech support??? -
Hey guys I can tell you that AW's tech support is horrible. Let me let you in on a little story. My sister ordered a Dell E1420 from Dell. She ordered the blue thinking it was lighter because it appeared that way on the website. When she received her laptop, I called them up about it. Guess what they threw in for free?
Free 3 in 1 Printer
Free 1 Year Lowjack
Free (2) Pairs of Earphones
Very nice compensation for the wrong color -

Nice Frag. Haha its funny because my name for games and whatnot is "Fragloser" so your name kinda reminds me of it.
Back on topic. I will test this out tomorrow just for you
