I haven't posted in this forum for quite a while now, since I've been busy with classes! Anyway, on to my problem...
I have had the m9750 for approximately half a year now, and I have noticed some things that concern me about this laptop, most, of which, has occured in the past few days. After I turn on my computer every morning, I just get the plug, touchpad, power, and the alienhead lights, but it just appears to hang there with POST apparently hanging for some odd reason. So I naturally think that maybe this was just a coincidence, so I hold down the power button until the laptop turns off. I let go of the power button; lo and behold, it turns itself back on again and hangs with no beeps or anything except for the lights I listed above. I basically repeat the cycle 10-20 times until I needed to use the bathroom. I came back and tried it again, but this time it apparently worked! The LCD screen works and displays the Alienhead! SUCCESS! Or so I thought...
Next, it freezes on the Alienhead BIOS screen and refuses to boot. So I power it off and try again, but I have to repeat the dumb procedures I described in the previous paragraph. I then get past the Alienhead screen and it freezes after that. So I repeat the cycle again, but this time I finally get into Windows! SUCCESS!
I have noticed that this happens only on cold boots, since after I do the procedure above (lovingly referred to as the 'morning routine'), I can reboot the computer as many times as I want and still have no strange POST problems. I can leave the computer off for short amounts of time without this strange thing happening again, but after this amount of time (I haven't measured it yet) the computer cold boots again, and I have to do the 'morning routine' again.
I have taken the following steps to attempt to resolve this problem, but all attempts to resolve the issue has been unsuccessful:
(1) Run software to check RAM and CPU. Passed.
(2) Run software to check for HD Errors. Passed.
(3) Reformatted HD and reinstalled Windows from scratch. Passed.
(4) Flashed BIOS 5 times. Passed.
(5) Removed CMOS battery to reset BIOS settings 5 times. Passed.
(6) Contacted Alienware. Response pending. Pending.
So, are there any other steps that I should take before they probably ask me to send it in? I don't really want to send it in because I really do need a computer to do those stupid problems that take forever to do in AnSYS and MATLAB. I want this laptop to work properly, but I am hesitant to hand it over to Alienware in light of what Stone825's thread showed about Alienware's wonderful (or is that shocking) service. I don't have the time now to screw around with Alienware, so I am considering just handing this laptop over to my younger brother and having him deal with Alienware, while I order a new smaller and more portable laptop (finally figured out that in college: portable + long battery life = key, big 'n heavy + powerful + poor or nonexistant battery life = no fun).
