I've had my m9750 for a year now. I haven't been gaming on it very much lately for the past 4-5 months, but I've started playing BioShock and Crysis, and my CPU temp (according to Notebook Hardware Control) is consistently hitting over 90 C while gaming under a full load.

Granted, I have 2 7950 GTX's and one shares the same fan as the CPU, I don't recall temps ever being this high. From what I can tell, the GPU temps are fine, but the CPU temp is idling in the low 70's, and cruising the 80's during full-load...and games like BioShock and Crysis will consistently send it 90+ to where it starts to throttle back (the warning from Notebook Hardware Control occurs at 95 C). With Crysis, it only takes about 5 minutes before the CPU temp reaches in excess of 90 C.

I opened it up, cleaned the vents, fants, everything, and there's plenty of airflow. My house is pretty cool at around 72-77 F, so I don't think the ambient temp is an issue. I've never really played Crysis or BioShock, and I am using good, updated drivers. My fans are definately blowing out hot exhaust, but I'm not sure if they're at full-speed or not (any way to check)?

Is this normal? I have some AS5 around here which I could apply, and I suppose buying the Zalman NC-2000 notebook cooler wouldn't hurt.

I don't really know to much about this myself, but some ppl swear by re-applying Artic Sliver Thermal Gel.

I just completely removed the fans and made sure there was no duest anywhere. I even cleaned the fabric that covers the air-intake vent slots on the removable cover...The slots are not that big and dust is not an issue....would it be safe to remove the fabric covering the slots to allow for increased airflow?

I'm going to apply some AS5 now, but even tempts idling 4-5 degrees cooler (mid-to-upper 60's) seems pretty high. I see people on here with idle temps in the 40's...is it because of the 2 GPUs (even while idling)??

You could check for a BIOS update, for your laptop and see what issues does it address....
Apply the AS-5 properly and look out for an active cooling pad....!! That should help, and check out the NBR Cooling Central....!! The CPUs are fine until the cross 100*C and then the BIOS automatically shuts down the notebook....!! When idle, you should undervolt your PC....

ProfessorSpankIt, my system idles in the high 60s as well (67C) which is normal for me since the day I purchased the machine. I've had to reapply arctic silver and clean out my fans and everything is good thus far. I haven't tested recently but I don't think my CPU temp goes above 90C or 85C for that matter when playing Bioshock. I don't have Crysis. I'll have to double check and see. Will post again after I test it.

It think the only thing that overheats my system now is furMark which will ALWAYS make my GPU downclock no matter what I do.

I don't think there was a BIOS update, but I will check.

It never hits the core shutdown temp (100 C) so I'm not too worried about that, but it throttles back all of the time, which I believe is when it hits 95 C. I just cleaned up the old thermal compound and applied some Artic Silver, so I'll see how that goes. I'll check into undervolting when not in heavy use (would that just be Dynamic Switching??).

Yes, Dynamic switching does downclock your CPU when it's not under heavy use. By default, that's how I have mine set up and it typically downclocks to 1gHz.

My M9750 has overheating problems too,its going back to AW next week, for the 3 rd time and the last time!!
Ive said i will take legal action to cancel the contract if its not sorted this time.Iam sick of it!
And these new drivers do not help, and they disable DX10,which is what i bought 8700 sli for.
If it cant cool its self proparly, then they shouldnt sell it!

I've had my M9750 for over a year now and my CPU temp when Idling is around 50c but that's with the Power Scheme set to balaced along with a Zalman NC-2000 cooler. Had no major poblems with mine thankfully and it's been a joy to use.

It would be interesting to see what difference the Zalman NC-2000 makes vs the M9750 normal fan cooling.

Anything that can cool it down would be great. Perhaps I will look into getting one oncemy M9750 is returned.

Undervolting will down your temps by 10 degrees, use the search function of this forum.

Im reading through the thread on cooling, thought I would get a cooling pad ahead of it being returned.

Might look at the undervolting as well, once its back.

i have the zalman NC-1000 and my temps idle around 47ºC. while gaming i think they crack to about the low to mid 60's. my GPU's idle around 53ºC, and go up into the 70's while gaming.

your temps are quite higher than mine so i'd suggest undervolting and that notebook cooler to help you out.

My CPU cores idle at 63C in SLI mode-around 59-60C in non-SLI mode so your idle CPU temps sound a bit high. I would be concerned about running the CPU continuously at temps over 85C.
