After playing some games on the brand new m9750, I've noticed something about this 1440x900 screen. Not only is the viewing angle quality terrible, the affects of looking at the screen from different angles (whitened black pixels, mostly) can be seen easily by viewing it straight on. The lower and upper regions of the monitor have severe problems with whitened black pixels.

Although the effect is overly emphasized in this picture by the dark room and no flash, it still gives an idea of what is happening.

Any idea on whats going on with this LCD panel? I hope this is not the norm for this screen. Word from others, especially other m9750 owners with the 1440x900 screen, would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same screen but suffer no problems with it.
I believe yours may be a one off and should be covered by your Alienware warranty.

That is some serious light leakage. That sure does look like an issue, but before you call Alienware, wait for other M9750 owners to chime in.

I tested an Alienware M7700 laptop back in early 2006 and it had a matte WXGA+ screen - it was not so great. You can read my comments in the review:

However it wasn't as bad as the one you are describing now.

Good to hear that this is not the norm.

The laptop was sent out to Alienware today, after spending some time on the phone with tech to see if it was a connection problem with the LCD. Although its pretty unlikely that a connection problem would cause something like this. The rep agreed that, after seeing the pic, it would have to be sent in. I'd better get a new LCD or I'ma be pissed. Although so far, Alienware's customer service seems alright.

Has anyone sent their notebooks in for repair? Any idea on how long the process usually takes?
