Long story short, I recently reformatted my laptop. I installed all the drivers given to me on the support CD (minus the Bluetooth driver) and I am getting no sound at all. The Realtek driver on the CD was an older version, but I still tried that, followed by trying the newest driver. Still, no sound. When you open up to see the listed audio devices, it shows nothing is there. I get this issue every time I reformat, but it's almost like it magically works over night and I never know how the issue is fixed.

My CD/DVD also does not work, or rather it only half works. Let's take some things:
    -WoW, reads DVD
    -FFXI, reads DVD
-Sacred 2 DVD, does not read
    -LotR:Online, does not read
    -Does not read burnt CDs
    -Does not read music CDs
-Tried a bonus DVD that came with a music CD, that worked.
-DVD movies, like Troy, does not read.
-The support DVD that came with the laptop, I had to rip off my fiance's desktop, use my iPod and use it as a storage device, because it will not read it either.

For now, I have been able to live because I can install my MMOs, but it's really hurting, seeing how that's all I can use my drive for.

I really dislike Alienware's customer support, I feel like I am talking to a brick wall and nothing ever is solved. I also don't have the money to send it in for repairs, and it's not under warranty anymore. Is there something on my side I am not doing right, or is my system really just fried.

My first priority is to get my sound working, what good is a system that can't play music when you are a music junkie. :p

    Hi Aposelene,

we need the version of windows you are using, some tech specs like RAM and Video cards, and tell us the last time it was working correctly and what driver versions you had then.

Also some detailed step-by-step of your reformating procedure (like is this a restore of an image or a new windows disk) would also help alot.

Also try checking out the sticky thread that gives all of the current drivers for the m9750. Maybe you have already tried that.

    Cheers

You should have renew your waranty now without warranty ITS expensive to get it repaired. That is what happened to my m15x,i had to get rid of it instead of paying to get it fixed.

I am using Windows XP: Media Centre addition
    Nvidia GeForce 8700M GT
    1GB Ram

My sound was working normally prior to the reformat, I am fairly sure it was the newest driver released my Realtek (it's in the thread that has the drivers listed, too) but I am not 100% sure.
My CD/DVD drive, I can't remember at all the last time it was working normally, probably before I got a bluescreen about a year ago.

As for reformatting procedure, I just use the Windows XP recovery DVD Alienware provided me with.

I see. Unfortuantely I have never used the Alien respawn cd, so I cant comment on how good it is at repairing installations. I personally use my own disk. What I use is Windows Server 2008. It is free for 240 days if you read up on how to do it, and it has proved the most stable for everything.

I'll try to keep thinking of solutions. But my advise is to use Driver sweeper to uninstall ALL drivers (Realtek and Nvidia), and reinstall with fresh ones from the thread. :)

    Hi Aposelene,
It's not too uncommon to have issues with Windows XP not detecting Realtek HD sound cards. There is a universal architecture patch that resolves the issue. However, you might be able to just run your windows updates (seeing as how it magically fixes itself).

    Thanks,
    Gabe
