i regularly clean out my notebook (every one to two months) and i also have a pretty decent cooling fan that my notebook sits on.
now occasionally, depending on the game, my gpu temps exceed 90ºC which concerns me. only one of my cards is overheating, the other maxes out around 78-81ºC while gaming.
at idle, my cards sit at around 67ºC with the cooler on.
anyone suggest that it's time to replace my thermal paste? i've had the notebook since december 2007

If it's low 90s then it's not TOO bad but those are still high temps. As said above it's time for a dust cleanout and new thermal paste.
-
Since you regularly clean your vents and reapply your thermal paste, maybe it's time for new heatsinks/fan assemblies. Even if you're out of warranty, they're relatively cheap.
-
no, i've never reapplied thermal past before so i'll try that first.
where can i purchase heatsinks?
@ Alienware Armando
my notebook is out of warranty - i only opted for the standard one year warranty so i'm about 6 months short, which is ok. -
Once you correctly apply a quality thermal paste like OCZ Freeze, your temps will drop considerably. -
-
i'd stick with the EGG so you know you got the good stuff
and you really can't mess up with us on your side -
hahah. i just want to do it today so i can experience the temperature drops now!!!
i'm sure my wallpaper would enjoy not catching on fire every time i play games as well -
lol get some rubbing alcohol and clean the heat sinks and stuff ...
other then that you can try best buy i have no idea ... but newegg ships extremely fast so won't have to wait long -
yeah i just went ahead and ordered it.
i mean, i'm going to buy the M17x towards the end of the summer so i don't care if one of my gpu's burn out right now haha -
Ah if its the Master GPU that burns out before the Slave then you'll be done sooner than you think.

Now it works perfectly. -
update:
got the AS5 today and applied it - now my temps max at 85ºC and idle 2-3ºC lower than before. also, my CPU temps dropped 3ºC as well.
finally!!! -

i knew that thermal paste would have been a good idea... i just wanted to reassure myself and find an excuse to post it here on NBR!
