hey guys i ordered my m17x on tuesday dec 1 and got a great deal! 600$ off the price! anyways Ron my friendly dell representative also gave me a free upgrade to a 24 month mcaffe virus protection subscription for free. this is on all the emails he sent me that show the components i ordered however when i check the order status page online it shows up as a 30 day trial. should i call up dell or is this normal? and is it something that can be fixed when it arrives?its already on the third day in the boxing stage. thanks for the help!

OMGGGGGGG MCAFFE! *chokes on the crappiness*

There are so many antiviruses out there that are MILES better than McAfee, even some of the free ones.

Sure. The new Vipre is meant to be superb. From what I could tell from the trial, it was. Fast scanning, high detection rate, and very low RAM footprint.

But why go for one that you need to pay for? Avira's AntiVir (yes, that's the name) actually has a higher detection rate than ANY OTHER ANTIVIRUS, including all the paid ones, at 99.7%. And it's free. Microsoft Security Essentials is also excellent.

I don't have anything against McAfee, but it eats a ton of resources, even when it is just 'sitting' there.

Yeah. It even has good protection against new viruses with its detection system before it's even updated for them. If you want, I think there's a paid edition you could use as well.

If you're really paranoid and really hate viruses, you could run ThreatFire alongside whatever you get. It basically scans all running processes for anything suspicious, and is a great addition to a strong antivirus.

Hell, where I live, there's about...2 days of rain on average a year, and I really doubt it's ever snowed here. Ever.

If you guys think snow is annoying, try living with roasting heat and never-ending sunlight every single bloody day. It makes me miss the rain back in the UK and be glad I'm going back there in 8 days for the holiday.
