Im sure Alienware will get it soon after it is released. They keep up with the new technology pretty well.

That might be better if you don't need one urgently.

Montevina is worth waiting for, particularly when used in a 15" notebook. The Montevina 45 nm technology is significantly faster and has lower leakage than it's Core2Duo predecessors. Less leakage (gate and drain-source) means less heat and that's important in a 15" notebook with a high-end graphics card that contributes enough heat on its own without the additional heat from the CPU.

but the question is, will AW update a notebook a few months after it was launched? AW had lots of issues with the m15x, i don't think they'll be inclined to go through them again. plus the m17x is gonna come out then too so they'll be up to their necks in issues and problems anyway.

really?and if they "keep up with the new technology pretty well" ,why they didn't update M9750 from Napa to Santa Rosa?

You must remember that the M17x is coming soon, and these two notebooks are a kind of 'pair' so if they update the m17x which I'm sure will happen then I'm sure they will have to for the m15x.

I don't think so because integrating a whole new generation of hardware might be harder than most people here think. They would have to invest much money into the developement and as the m15x is selling very good at the moment and the difference to Montevina might not be that big I think they won't update the m15x. From my point of view they will release the m17x with Montevina but updating the m15x would be too cost-intensive.

Let's remember AW put Penryns in the m15x relatively quickly, so it isn't unreasonable to think Montevina would be in the m15x within a month or two after its release.

If you can wait, well, waiting's always good ;)

but "upgrading" a laptop to montevina is magnitudes more difficult than simply adding penryn compatibility. one requires re-designing the whole thing, the other simply adding some code to the BIOS.

Yeah, for sure Montevina will be a much more intensive upgrade than that to Penryn, but my point is more that AW is trying hard to get the best stuff in their m15x ASAP

A late august arrival would mean a late July order; therefore I'm guessing no, but it would probably be only off on a scale of weeks (that is, if AW is actually trying to get montevina in the m15x).

Yeah, even if they did offer you an upgrade that would probably cost you just as much as buying an entirely new m15x.

damn bro im in the same situation as you... i need the m15x by late august cuz thats when my fall semester of college begins and im tryn to hold off ordering the m15x as late as i can, so they cud fix all bugs which they pretty much are, for black color, and obviously montevina... i mean if it comes out in june, they have the rest of june and july to see if they can add it... montevina wud be great for sales bcuz lots of ppl buy notebooks during summer, specially before school starts. i wish AW cud hint at us if there even considering puttin in montevina, cuz if not, then it wud just be a waste of time to wait that long for nothing. i hope they do tho, that wud complete this 15.4 inch beast

We've had a lot of threads asking about Montevina lately and honestly, they never go anywhere.

There is no information on what Alienware plans to do with the m15x and speculation is nothing but blind guessing. I'm closing this thread because it is useless.

Bottom line - buy a notebook when you need it.
