You may want to download GPU-Z and see if there is a difference in temp because CPU-Z may not be accurate (it once stated my 9400M @ 255C lol)
And did you try going back to A02?
I have A03 and Dell driver 186.82 and have no problem with temps. -
ye downloading now, not i havent tried going back yet to A2 could u link me the offical download for it pls mate? atm my two cards are 61 and 66 passive idle with nothing but firefox up! im worried atm. i did a system restore point to 2 days ago back to my orginional drivers but its still pretty hot for idle!
edit, is there any specific way to install bios? i just clicked it and updated to A3? -
Looks like the fans are mulfunctioning.
Try re-flashing the BIOS, but did the issue happen right after the flashing or gradually? Might also be a dying fan or even dust... -
erm well frm what i knoticed i only played warhammeronline, and things were fine 60 degrees, its when i uninstalled my previous drivers, and used cccleanup and deleted registry files with that which was 2day it started! -
oki reinstalled the A3 bios
card 1 is 60 degrees and card 2 is 64. and the 9400 is 67 idle =/ confused =/ -

Here is A02 BIOS:
http://ftp.us.dell.com/bios/R235673.exe
Just click and it will auto flash for you. Simple as that. -
oki ill try the a2 again, but back to stutter =/ thnx m8
-
I'd re-flash the BIOS A03 again, but first verify that the vents are clean of dust.
Also, while re-flashing check if all the fans are at their max blast. you can easily tell by the noise level and by holding your hand near the vents. -
ye when it flashes i hear them belt out, i dont feel alot of air at the back although i never did and it kept it around 60degrees. but during games i usually never hear it max blast like it does when i flash the bios. the AWSD keys are slightly hotter than normal, its rather anoying =/ whats the return policy on alienware machines? only had it like 5 months =/
-
SillyHoney Headphone Enthusiast
ONLY 5 MONTHS??? LMAO
Just forget about return policy lol.
And you do need to check the fans and the vent. Covering with dust makes those much less function. -
oki reflashed it mate, played 5mins of border lands.. 9400 is 72, one of the 280's is 62 other is 94! =/ help pls lol
bottom is clean no dust mate =/
going to install A2 againa and see how it goes -
-
im not really that techy to do that mate =/ same issue in border lands with A2 one card is 94 degrees =/ guessing 1 card fan is fked? -

To make sure if one card is... as you said (I have just received notice for foul language lol) you first have to make sure if your game is running on SLI or not. If it runs on SLI and you still have one card burning then it's defective.
-
well now its at 76-80 degrees in 1 card, do u think i should phone alienware up? is there any chance of getting a completely new machine and send the old 1 back? heard mandrake i think his name, they sent him a new one and he sent the old 1 back?
thnx again for replying m8 -
Call Dell. They will probably go the usual route to find/fix the problem:
1)Replace the fan/s
2)Replace the GPU/s
3)Replace the Motherboard
4)Replace the system to a similar one (same generation/specs)
5)Replace the system with a new gen.
If you can be patient and persistent to get to 5) - You are LUCKY.
So good luck! -
thanks very much mate for reply, ill give them a call monday =)
btw do you think i should call dell or alienware? -
-
Its all handled by the same entity now - Dell. Call Dell Support.
EDIT: Beat me to it Aikimox -
thnx guys =) i also might of solved this issue by reinstalling all drivers, is 70 degrees on both cards good or bad for borderlands? anyone compare there scores?
back to 64 degrees on cod mw2, almost back to normal i think. ok now ive installed A3 from afresh, and its idle 51 on both cards and 70 on 9400, all seems well now u think?
appreciate the help and info guys =) now to test in a game! -

9400M at 70 when idle is pretty hot. I only see mine at that temp during stress test. It is often at 62 or some sort when idle.
GTX 260Ms at 40-42 when idle, 68-70 when fully loaded.
CPU at 41-43 when idle, 67-69 during stress test.
Just some numbers for you to compare.
Edit: And Im talking about temps when my system is OC'ed as showed in sig. -
thanx guys, at night with heating off, 9400 is 63
and both cards are 48i feel better lol =)
need help guys had reallly high temps since A3, screeny inside.
