right i received my m17x R2 yesterday and its all up and running.. but it dont seem right :( im getting a windows index score of 5.9 on my memory... also when running benchmarks like 3dmark06 it dosent display full screen... it goes into an envelope in the middle of the screen!

    specs are

    i7 620
    4gb ddr3 1333mhz ram
320gb 7200 sata hdd (it didnt come with raid o_O)
    2x 4870 hd
    1920x1200 RGB LED

am i better off just doing a fresh install? or is there something im missing here?? or would you guys say this sounds about right?

I get 5.9 on the memory when I have my integrated GPU on.
If I disable it I get 7.2, but this is on my R1

However am I right in thinking you dont have an integrated GPU on the R2?

For the second problem it sounds like scaling must of been disabled in the ATI control panel, Check this and report back.

That's correct. The R2 does not have an ingetrated graphics processor.

Nah the R2's have a revised motherboard to support the "i" chips. It doesn't have a 9400m for some reason. The i CPUs all have integrated graphics built in but because of the mobo, they cannot be used.

Does the windows score really matter? As long as your real world performance is good, I wouldn't really bother paying attention to the windows score.

well it scoring low would show there is something wrong with the current setup?? i know its a replacement system BUT i would still like everything working 100%!!

What exactly is at 5.9? the overall WEI score will be the lowest number. IN this case since you have mechanical HDD's 5.9 overall score is what it's going to stay at until you install an SSD. If it's the memory, it will increase if you overclock the CPU in the BIOS. Don't put too much faith in WEI, is just about worthless.

Ahh, gotcha, cultural lesson of the day. ;)

what CPU do they have? I forgot you can't OC the 620. Faster CPU's will yield better scores for the memory as well in the WEI.

If i remember correctly, i have 7.4 on memory but i have the 920XM. I remeber when my CPU was throttling it would decrease both the CPU and memory Scores, What is your CPU score?

Yea, looks like with a 620, your memory is going to be bottlenecked by the CPU. Nothing really to worry about.

If you plan on getting a better CPU, i would recommend the i7 820QM, its got 2mb more cache than the 720QM, and you are not going to see much difference with the 720QM with applications that do not utilize all 4 cores. If you like even more performance, go for the 920XM, unlocked multipliers, and 5% bios increase.

i7 620M Meaning the Dual Core I7 Have a Integrated GPU on the chip. So it might be stuck in Stealth mode.

Kevin, What is your overall score in 3dmark06 when you run it? This should give you an indication of whether something is wrong or not.

Integrated GPU on i7 620M does to come into it as it is not compatible with Intel PM55 chipset so therefore is redundant . Unfortunately :(

Ignore the Windows Experience index. It isn't a reliable benchmark. The more memory you have, the bigger the score will be.

As for your image not being stretched to full screen, you simply need to change a setting in the Catalyst control panel to set it to do that.
Set your desktop to a lower than native resolution for a little bit (otherwise you won't be able to adjust the Scaling options). Then open Catalyst Control Center, click on Graphics->Desktops & Displays, right-click on the little laptop icon labeled 1 in the bottom left corner and click configure. Under Scaling Options, mark either the "Full Screen" radial box (this will stretch the picture to fill the full screen) or "Preserve Aspect Ratio (This will stretch it but preserve the aspect ratio of the displayed resolution so you will have black borders on either left and right or above and below the picture if you display a resolution that doesn't have the native aspect ratio of your screen). Leaving it on "Centered" will turn of stretching and display the picture in the center of the screen pixel by pixel.
After you have made your selection, click OK. Then set your display resolution back to the native one.
