ok i know nvidia is superior in games but the power the ATI is there. as of the latest driver releases which one is getting it done better.( obviously i mean xfire and the 9800m gt ) and which would you choose, future power of ATI or the single 9800?

    same specs in each laptop
    Intel® Core™2 T9400 2.53GHz (6MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium (64-bit Edition) with Service Pack 1
    160GB 7,200RPM (8MB Cache)
    (the m15x will have 4gb of ddr2
    m17x will have 2gb ddr3)

hard to choose now but im ordering tonight and i need some help.
btw i wanna play cod 4,5 fallout 3 try some crysis bioshock masseffect halo 2 etc...gimme some feed back
i know chaz prolly some where else but let a man get some feedback ive read hundreds of post i want a freakin answer lol

the ATI because dual cards is the future of gaming it seems like every single game coming out now is supporting dual cards its just a matter of time before ALL new games will be able to use two GPU's and that would help your system last longer because it will have the punch of two cards my next notebook i definitely want an SLI/Crossfire notebook its just a matter of which one... :D good luck and id go with the M17 though some people think it is hideous so make sure you look at pics/videos :)

This isn't my decision to make, but when I came to this point, It was pretty obvious that newer would become the better, so I went with M17 instead of m15x.

Also just a note some games are natively made for nvidia GPU's so nvidia should be able to run smoother in more games overall so you have to look and see if those games are really built around nvidia or ATI

yea , newer is better and i guess any one bragging about how good and faster there 9800 is then wait till drivers come out(shouldnt have to though) or the rumored 4xxx whoo id choose power over looks any day beside the m17 is built like a TANK.

also with enough power doesnt matter what its built around lol (to a degree) :p

in my opinion laptops are made for portability. i would get the m15x since it is still pretty powerful and it has amazing battery life. if the laptop is just going to sit on your desk all day or most of the time a desktop would be best since the performance of a 2000 desktop will kill any laptop on the market. But if you dont like a desktop then go with the M17 if it will sit on your desk most of the time. You will not have a fun time travelling with a M17 if you do travel alot.

Don't see how traveling is going to be a problem if you just get a backpack to hold it?

As far as portability, I am positive the reason these computers are called laptops is for the fact they are portable, otherwise it would be called a desktop.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Companies fearful of liability claims (all) tend to call those things notebook computers now. The more technology companies cram into them, the hotter they run, which translates to a greater chance of someone searing themselves if they use it on their lap. Ultimate potential? Lawsuits.

Once you call a computer a "notebook", portability is likely, but isn't to be assumed.

I think that why the M15X and M17X has power they have extra battery life. I am not saying they are faster I am saying they can do more on battery power.

I agree with the others if you want power go for a desktop and lug that around. I will stay with a Laptop with a backpack.

m17 is the size of Vietnam, freakish enormous, if you don't plan on ever moving it you might as well get a desktop.

m15 is made for portability, and gaming, like a notebook should be.

I've got a swiss army notebook backpack that I lug my OCZ around with.. If carrying the brick of a power supply, and the notebook..it can be a bit heavy. The charger weighs a couple pounds..the notebook isn't that bad. But, I'm no wuss so I don't mind carrying 12-13 lbs on my back. If you wanna drag the M17 around, just get a comfortable backpack for it. Something sturdy with good shoulder and lower back padding. You'll need it. :p Oh.. and while it is a desktop replacement, it is still portable. Just not as portable as a 15" notebook. But, any good 17" rig should be cumbersome, if not..then it's not worth owning.

well the way I see it the m15x wins in only a few ways-lighting (choices!) size/weight and price. Otherwise if you want power and a big lcd you want an m17. I'd love one but am pretty happy with my m15x.
