well i was set on getting the 5796 but am reconsidering the m15x. my config will come to about 2300$ with an 8800M GTX 2.5GHz processor an 1GB RAM (will upgrade later)
i really want this now because 1 its an alienware, 2 it has an illuminated keyboard and 3, it shoud be just or close to the power of the sager 5796.
o wow i cant believe i am considering this, but i want it now

Mr._Kubelwagen More machine now than man
What exactly are you asking us?
As for your first 'point', it seems you're already set on getting an Alienware *just because* it's an alienware. You can get better deals on Sagers, if you're at all concerned about price/performance ratios. -
-
as much as i like AW, if your worried about monies, i would look more into sager, clevo, etc....
(OMG - i can not believe i just said that....)
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
well im worried about all of the problems that everyone has had.
-
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
but are the problems that bad... i know theres a few that had problems but how rough were they handeling it? i would wrap this thing in bubblerap before moving it an inch.
-
So let us hear your problems that you most worry about, and then we can take them. -
if you feel the need 4 bubble wrap then an AW is not for you.
that aside...read the forums thru. several people will opt to never speak good of AW for thier own reasons, some listed in forums, some personal.
if you have the notion in your head of a faulty unit already, then you will see nothing but the bad to begin with. -
I'm not speaking for everyone, but as for me, I haven't had any major issues with my m15x yet. All minor, and solved over time. I'm a relatively new m15x owner though. I've only had mine for about 2.5 weeks. Just go for it.
-
On the contrary, the m15x is still a good notebook.
You already know the issues you may have, it has long life battery (must buy Smart Batery), binary gfx and is light.
Only thing you need to stay in mind are:
- > 3 years warranty - no excuses, you gonna needed.
- > Good chance to need to send it back for repairs. -
I'd read all of the reviews on it first before buying it. If you have the heart to buy one even after reading about all of the issues the m15x had encountered previously, then go for it. Ennea and I are both relatively new m15x owners but all of the issues we've had so far have been all minor. Nothing too extreme yet like downclocking, overheating issues, or hinge breaking.
-
findvikas and Ennea need to look at my signature
-
Don't get an m15x.
-
Lethal Lottery Notebook Betrayer
lets put it this way... if i could buy this or the gateway fx gaming laptop i would go for the gateway. Huge regret on my part, there is a whole landury list of problems, most of which alienware refuses to address.
-
In public, girls won't mind if you whip a sager out but if you whip an AW out they might think you're a geek
. It sucks for me because I hate taking my laptop in public because the crowd I hang with really isn't into that at all and its kinda nerdy
Also you will pretty much have a hinge break with the M15x at some point. -
i would get another m15x anyday, since i got mine i havent gotten any problems, and it has worked flawless, i am also an international customer, and i am very happy with my laptop
getting it 3 weeks earlier thank planned was another plus -
Aside from the crappy hinges and terrible plastic which will warp and go wonky because it cant handle the heat being generated by this laptop, the m15x looks great at first impression but if your AlienFx is not working like mine which died for no reason then the laptop will really look out dated.
They could have made it more Alien look and feel about the laptop especially around the key board plastic cover which seemed more like a wasted of space.
Mine was sent back last week, I wouldn't mind if they just throw it in the bin and never call me back that's how bad i feel about that laptop. I dont even care about the $6000 i lost i'll just pretend it was a donation to the Smith Family or something.
My alternative would be to get rid of it altogether and get and upgrade to the m17x but since i have seen and felt the cheap quality of the m15x I am too scared to even venture into Alienware other product.
As a consequence of my work on oil rigs, i have to travel to work by planes then helicopters, the m17x will be too heavy for travelling to the oil rig by chopper.
Alienware do have very good customer service but I didn't buy this computer just to chit chat with their CS.
Overall the m15x is a very good computer besides being poorly built and constructed with cheap plastic. I dont know how long you are planning to keep it for but you will definately need a very very very very long warranty.
Once bitten twice extremely shy.
Kudos to their Customer Service guy called Adam from Australia he could make an angry man like me stay so calm for so long he deserves a promotion. -

And yeah, I actually rock the purple. I think it looks sexy, and fortunately other people do too. Aesthetics is a pretty big factor in getting the m15x. It's true, you can get relatively the same performance for less with a Sager but if you have the cash, Alienware's got a pretty attractive style. -
I like the Red but I running the M17X
-
In any case, my wallpaper and my avatar are both red, so I went with all red lighting. The FX lighting complements them very well. -
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
well there are some pros and cons of both, but have heard that the m17x is built alot better. it also has everything that i want in it (black, illuminated keyboard, alienware)... but its really expensive.
ive heard some people of being able to upgrade the cheap graphics cards to the better 8800M GTX SLI later... is it possible, is it hard?
thanks -

if you haven't read this thread yet, check out milcs excellent post entitled "why you shouldn't buy the m15x"
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=254627 -
With any other laptop if u walk into a building with it and sit down and take it out people wont even give it a look but if you get a alienware out and put it on the desk i can gurantee everyone in the room will be like ***
-
The m17x should have a better build quality since it is meant as a desktop replacement, more that a mobile gaming station like the m15x.
The flaw on the m15x seems to be the good faith of AW in trying to use lighter material (plastic in case) instead of more sturdier but heavier solution, and make it more mobile. -
tyronne and AtolSammeek also need to take a look at my signature, and follow by the examples of Ennea and findvikas
Thanks guys for the compliance. -
-
Tomarrow I am going to a Pro Star retailer. Which I have a laptop from them. And I hope to order two 9800gt for the M17X -
Did you even read his signature? " Officially, signatures cannot exceed 4 lines. So please please please fix your gigantic signatures, kids." That's what he's talking about.
-
That funny I look at the rules and on signatures. It did not say anything about 4 lines. I did see one about Image Size. It sound fishy to me.
-
Yep, so fishy...
-
Hep: at the risk of sounding rude....why are you the one going around deciding to tell everyone to downsize thier sigs when you are not even a moderator?
if this was an issue, i think the board moderators could have stepped in themselves.... -
Why do I have to be a moderator to encourage people to follow the rules? The rules are in place for a reason.
I personally do my best to follow all rules here at NBR, but am personally peeved by huge signatures, as they are unnecessary and just clutter up the page, which is why I make extra effort to see this rule enforced.
That said, you're breaking signature rules but I am not getting on you about it because it's not quite as bad, in my opinion. -
as i am not adding to the topic of the OP you are not as well by having your personal issues about signatures posted in the forums.
while i appluad your desire to police the signatures on the boards, it is not your place to enforce.
i have but one line in my signature as you can see.
the picture was accepted by NBR, thus i figure it met the requirements. if it did not, then i would suspect the program would have advised me it was to large, as it did when i tried to load one that was animated. (yeah i tried)
again, nothing personal, but let the moderators know and let them make the decision to tell people to change them.
your personal issues with huge signatures is just that - yours.
if you are so stead fast in policing the sigs, then see if you can post a thread in each forum and make your personal views be known, and ask that the rules be followed.
-
You have an animated picture in your signature, smiley or not, and also have text in addition to the picture. Separate they are fine, together it's a bit too big.
And how is it not my job to tell people their signatures are too big, but it's your job to tell me how to post? I'm not enforcing my rules, I am merely pointing out the forum rules. -
first: the smiley was taken from the approved "smiley's" available on the forums here. it was not imported from another location. thus, i would say it is approved by the forum.
second: as you posted above:
third: i was not telling you how to post, i was offering a solution to assist you in spreading the word about signatures. by posting 'inside' a thread about the sigs, you do not contribute to the topic of the thread. thus my solution about an indiviual thread regarding signatures and the rules associated with them was offered.
fourth: i will no longer comment on this as it has hijacked this thread and taken it far from topic.
fifth:have a great day!!!!
-
no need to talk you out of it, you will see what that machine is really about once you get it.
-
if you live in the UK why dont you just buy both machines, then try them both out and then return the one you dont like. UK has way better consumer protection laws so you should be able to get a refund easily.
omg try and talk me out of getting an m15x
