    Hello everyone,

After all the commotion about the m15x and its everchanging problems, I decided to get one. :) You might all be thinking... what's wrong with this guy? However, I had the genius idea of going to a DellDirectStore (they have these in Canada XD) and ordered the "accidental warranty". 200 dollars extra might seem like a waste; nevertheless, if ANYTHING happens over 4 years, even if its my fault... or the laptop gets stolen I'm covered in 1 way or another.

The staff at the DellDirectStore are really friendly and helped me set up my laptop (even though I technically won't be able to put it on my lap :D ) just the way I wanted.

So if you live in the U.S. or Canada, there is probably a DDS in your nearest mall. Do not get the Alienware warranty because little is covered (based on everyone's joyful comments). Rather go to Dell and order the accidental warranty. Since I live in Canada, the Dell Representative said my laptop would be fixed by Dell, not Alienware.

So in conclusion, I hope everything with my new computer goes well and I hope all you posters consider getting this wise option.

I happened to order my laptop earlier today. I purchased the laptop as well as the warranty for four years. There are two types of warranty: normal and complete care. Normal is alright for desktops. But since there is the option, complete care would be recommended for laptops as Dell will fix anything. (They will even replace the screen if you drop the laptop :D )

    So I reccommend this option...

Let's see what happens in two months time when I receive my laptop ... and in four months time when something goes wrong for the first time :p

If the Dell Complete Care warranty applies to the M15x, then you'll definitely be good to go. I have it on my M1710 and M1730, and it has easily covered several thousand dollars in repairs over both units combined during the last 2 years.

No I bought the m15x through dell instead of Alienware... Dell has much nicer staff (not complaining about Alienware) and I picked this warranty reason ONLY because of all the problems everyone is seeming to have. And since I can't live without having one of these notebooks... I bought one! :)

    Regarding theft...

Say you're at Starbucks like those fake writers for example... and a very unlikely even occurs where someone steals your laptop. This would probably not be covered under home owner warranty. Instead Lojack finds your notebook for you with tracking.

Filing claims using home-owners takes time, and if you make too many claims, some insurance providers will drop you. However, Dell Complete Care cost me a flat $300 per laptop, and it has recovered itself many times over in repair cost savings. An onsite tech is part of the package :)

EDIT: I was looking at the M15x when I was told by AW tech support that they didn't provide accidental damage coverage, and as a result, I purchased the XPS M1730. If Dell's Premiere XPS Support team starts covering AW laptops, then AW users are in for big support upgrade. My next laptop might be an AW as a result.

Since I won't be using it for gaming (what a shame)... The only concern I had was the chassis cracking! I've had 3 HP notebooks before... only 1 was compaq and had a few stupid problems (was running WoW on 256 mb ram :)) Other than that, HP notebooks are great! I can't wait for my first Alienware/Dell notebook :)

And also, I was told by the Dell staff that the Dell xps1530 was going to get the extreme x9000 processor as well as the mobile 8800 gtx gpu... it's currently a rumour so meh.

It doesn't work for the Uk site. I searched for Alienware and nothing came back. Give it a try, the warranty is certainly better from Dell

Hmm, I'll have to inquire about this the next time I go malling (which should be soon, I am quite desperate for new clothes for college :D), since I'm 100% sure that I read an article saying that AW & Dell would operate as two separate lines and that warranties/CS/etc. would not cross between the two.

I'm kicking myself for not bookmarking it or remembering how I found it because I can't seem to find it again, but I'm quite positive that's what I read.

Alienware is proud to offer a broad range of warranties on our computers worldwide. While Alienware is part of the Dell family, at this time we can only support Alienware-issued warranties and services on our systems.

If that is the case, why is an accidental damage coverage plan not part of AW's current warranty offering list? I apologize if my question sounds pointed, but this was a critical issue which eventually lead me towards a Dell gaming laptop instead of the m15x I was initially shopping.

To the Forum Mods: If my question is out of line, then please delete this reply. I don't want to fan any flames. Thank you.

i think i know why but i may be compleatly wrong.

    my guess is that
ALienware laptops are 2 expensive and labor intensive/part specific to repair / have such good warranty on. as well as the some what experimental nature of its sistems which seem to push the limit.. aggressively of late.

stuff like this all boils down the number of units sold really. mainstream dell products can have space for such nice generous perks.

Hey rosarkar, You have said that you ordered your Alienware machine through Dell... How did that work?

I and others have tried to find Alienware through Dell Uk and Com and have found no links or anything useful that would allow this to happen?

I'd just like to know if it's possible, purely for the warranty parts...?

Oodle-bear he said in his first post that he ordered it from a dell direct store. I think they are only in Canada (i think) and they must sell alienware laptops their I'm guessing. So that (being it's only in Canada) and that it is a store (not online) you most likely won't find it online.

I have a DDS in a mall walking distance from my house (a bit of a stretch). Once I'm ready to buy the m15x (Black Ripley) I'm going there, and that warranty sounds like a great idea.

Yeah I think the poster got some Dell people who didn't know what they were talking about. But AW should make an accidental warranty available to its customers
