phase 9, m17

hey guys I'm new to this forum,
I love to overclock, and I do plan on voiding my warrenty
I've built multiple desktops but never a laptop,
I was going to get the OCZ whitebook but then I decided I'd rather sit around waiting a month for alienwares great service!
I'd like to announce that my m17 is shipped!
I already got the tracking number on sunday
but so far nothing comes up on the fedex
website when I put the tracking number in.

anyway here's my specs =

P8400 2.26GHz (planning on upgrading to extreme or quad in the future)
Dual 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 3870 - CrossFireX
17-Inch WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 LCD (1200p)
4gb DDR3 1066MHz
160GB (plan adding another drive in the future)

my keyboard and graphics cards were on back order.
but your order should come quickly, hopefully before xmas!

Just a small update, the Laptop was picked up by FedEx at 6:00 PM =D

 

Good luck sleeping the next few days, in Phase 8 myself and here is to hoping we get them by Friday! My 3rd purchase from AW and never been disappointed!

Hit Phase 3 on Friday. the 5th. Monday the 8th, Still phase 3. M17 .

 

Betting you will see some movement within the next few days, I was in Phase 2 for 8 days then went to shipped in 3 working days.

edit I ordered on Nov 24th.

im in the same boat...I hit phase 6 last Thursday and I am still there....
we will see what happens...i will be giving AW a call around mid day tomorrow to check on status...

 

note : 1:30 am and I'm still awake.
but good to hear! alot of people talk crap on alienware and their customer service and the onsite repair and whatnot, but most of us who order these computers are well informed gamers who know what goes into a computer, I would never rely on a company to ship a replacement part in time, nor do i trust some geek squad repair man. in the 3 desktops that I have built I've only had one motherboard go bad and one graphics card go bad, (and it was my friend that switched that red voltage switch on the back of the PSU, which fried the mobo and gfx card) sent them both to newegg and they replaced both with new parts within a week. if you know whats wrong, just order the new part and send alienware the defective one and ask for a refund and tell them you replaced it yourself, having software? troubles then reformat like the rest of us. don't buy a Ferrari if you can't drive it!

LOL isn't that the guy who ordered a quad core and didn't bother overclocking it to 3.6Ghz before sending it back

 

That's the guy who ordered quad core and expecting it to pwn the world even though I told him that quad core will be slower than x9100 stock.
When he got it, he found out the quad core doesn't pwn the world, then he complaints about driver and software.

Btw anyone from the people that already received their M17 remember how long it takes for DHL to deliver them (in uk) ?

 

I ordered from Dublin to Poland. They Shipped it thursday very late evening (21:00 hours) and next week, wednesday morning I recieved it ;] So excluding saturday and sunday it was 4 working days. I assume that since form Irleand to UK is far more closer (far-close, nomen omen ) so it will be 2 days. 3 at maximum.

 

I predict no sleep for tonight Was on the phone with DHL's customer service, apparently my laptop arrived and i should have it tomorrow morning /drool . Only took like 1 and a half day :s

Might as well get my 2 litre coffee ready :S

 

quad core is for multi tasking, most games only support dual core,
I'm sure in the future some games will support quad core.
if you want to have 3,452,354 programs open at once then quad core is they way to go! if you game, and you don't open 3,452,354 programs at once then get a dual core!

 

Depends on the usage tbh, you can play a lot with quad cores. For eg make a local server, (fps,http,gaming anything) and have only 2 cores running for those and the rest 2 your game

seems overnight for me.

Called Fedex, they said it's not picked up yet. So I wonder how are they going to deliver by 5 PM tomorrow, or get through the custom by 6 AM for delivery tomorrow.

 

At least your tracking number is working, mine is "not found" as of yet, 10 hours since notified. Hangin 10 till this evening and check again.

Yea I would also be a bit leery on the delivery time as well, go go gadget FedX!

 

mine went to phase 9 for 20 hrs and just got the tracking number show up in phase page.

 

Mine is on phase 9, arriving tomorrow morning around 10 at my door and still havent received my tracking number

 

how do u know it's going to arrive around 10 without a tracking number?

 

Called AW, got my tracking number from the phone, called DHL 1 day later, they told me its gonna be delivered tomorrow

edit: i meant to say that i havent received my tracking number by email probably never would if i didnt call them

 

hell yeah man! now you just need to get yourself one of those ocz solid state drives

 

Theres a decent one around 240gb i think, half speed from the usual 60gb+ gb ones but still a lot faster than the normal ones

 

put two of them in raid and its just as fast as the 60gb one

At Monday still Phase 4 (two weeks), Tuesday Phase 5, today shipped (location Austria)!

My Specs M17:

Lowest configuration, also only 1440x900 screen (running second Display), Dual Ati´s, illuminated Keyboard! But.......

on my table lies a QX9300 (SLB5J) , 4GB DDR3 7-7-7 Ram, 2 Samsung 64GB SLC SSD´s! And the parts are waiting for the M17!

are you planning on putting those samsungs in raid 0? because I don't see a reason why not to! 100mb/s read and 90mb/s write Isn't fast enough

I´ll start some tests, Raid 0 or only single SSD! You´right, 100/90 mb/s are not the fastest SSD, but it´s SLC with good access time! My greatest Problem, 2 64Gb drives, total 120Gb avaible, that´s not enough!

My favorit configuration, only single SSD for System and Programs, second HDD (WD Black Scorpio 320GB 7200rpm) for Data! External 3,5" WD 6400 as Backup Drive!

 

those samsungs are expensive where did you get them at?

 

i buy the samsungs with a little bit of luck by eBay! The first one for 400€ (500$), second one for 300€ (375$)! New!

Also my QX9300, new and NO!! ES or QS Chip for 600€ (750$)!

Think that are good deals because AW takes 1100€ for the QX9300!

here's a w00t for you, i've been waiting around all day expecting to sign for the laptop and about 2:45 check my Tracking number and find out that "nobody was home"

It turns out that they tried delivering to the wrong house >< So after arguing on the phone with FedEx for an hour I'm just going to go pick it up at 6:30 sooooooooooo rediculous.

 

LOL that SUCKS man. I was almost considering calling in and scheduling to pick mine up in the morning when it arrives at my local fedex, instead of waiting for the fedex guy to drive around with my package in his truck delivering 50 other packages before mine lol

 

Yeah, not a bad Idea. Had someone been home at the address they went too and signed for it I would've been SOL on a new laptop. We would've been fighting for 6-7 months with them saying "well you signed for it"

 

that's worst case scenario, maybe your neighbors might be nice enough to say that its not their package
of course if an alienware showed up at my door id take it for sure!
