It's paying more for a bigger name brand...at least they don't go overboard like VooDoo.

well, you get a very exclusive design. you also get a product from a boutique brand - this is Alienware, not Acer. you also get features that other notebooks don't have (in the case of them m15x, smart bay, dual graphics, etc). finally, AW usually also offers exclusive software - command center, aliensense, etc.

This IS the gaming laptop others try to copy. It is the best bang for the money no question. Some say its pricey but there are others that are even higher priced, and the only way they beat it is by using Desktop Chips (Clevo D900 series).

    Do the research before jumping.

Voodoo is history and they were a Clevo reseller.

if your basing information on what they charge for RAM and HDD upgrades on the site.
businesses will always charge more when they can.
you seem educated enough to know you can get the RAM and HDD's from other sources....

They're not history they just got bought out by HP. You can go to HP's website to buy an overpriced Voodoo machine which only comes in one flavor.

actually, Voodoo has some really interesting stuff now. that ultraportable of theirs is pretty sweet (although horrendously expensive), and the desktop (Omen?) is pretty radical in terms of the whole case design.

The Voodoo that everyone knew is history, those 2 remaining examples will be as well. HP bough Voodoo just like Dell bought AW, however HP canibalized it into the mainstream of HP, it is no longer a "Boutique" like Dell kept AW.

i think it'll stay semi-independent as the luxury line of HP. plus, HP uses the Voodoo brand name ("with Voodoo DNA") for their gaming desktops.
