I just got a near perfect used area 51m 5500i-R3 for a great price. But the fan dosnt come on and it over heats after some time.I was told it will keep working with a cooler. Anyway it there a way to fix this in the bios or do I need to replace the fan? I also have a 7700 that I have had for three years that I love that has been great.

hmm... i wonder why you got it for a great price then? oh wait...

    :D :D :D

joking aside, the fan's probably busted. and since you're not the original buyer, no warranty, which means no support from AW. so i think you'll have to hunt down a fan on ebay, or maybe get a second 5500 and use it a parts donor.

    Poor you...
Good luck mate. Try and buy a fan from AW... but I doubt they will sell it to you.

    weren't the 5500s rather well-known for overheating?

(and i don't want to hear any comments about how this was the start of AW's long list of overheating 15-inchers :D)
