I was playing L4D2 and i noticed the left side of my laptop was warmer than the right side and when I ran HWmonitor one GTX 260 and the 9400 were like 80 degrees but the other GTX 260 was like 30 degrees. I checked and it says that Im in SLI but why does it seem that only one GTX 260 is working?

If it wasnt working it would be @0C im assuming merely because the slave doesnt work as hard as the master in most instinces

You have a frozen graphic card! :p
Take it out. Put it in the oven and it'll work perfectly again. :D

    Anyway,
Do you have the SLI profile for L4D2?
If not, you can download the SLI profile update from BatBoy's blog.
Then, try running the game again.

No its not bad if the slave is not working hard as the master, there is a primary adapter and a linked adapeter. im stating it may be because the linked or secondary adapter doesnt work as hard as the primary? i have the same thing with my ATI cards, except the temperature range difference isnt as great

when I run the update i get this:

There was a problem starting nvcpl.dll
The specified module could not be found.

EDIT* Instead of getting the update I read that I could use nHancer to fix the L4D2 SLI problem. But I have no idea how to use nHancer...if someone could tell me what I have to do to fix it that would be great! :D

was it smooth when you play games ? maybe the second one does not need to work as hard as the primary GPU. If you're playing games smoothly then it should be ok. Or try to use the latest driver.

Every game plays perfectly. It just gets hot and I was wondering if I could fix it. It doesn't really bother me just as long as it isn't a problem for my laptop. Would getting a cooler help?

yea getting a cooler might help your problem. Or you can use thermal paste on both GPUs, this might decrese the temperature

Try the SLI Guide to determine whether SLI is working in your game or not and find out how to enable it.

Right-click on your desktop and go to Nvidia's Control Panel. Then on the lower left corner of that new window that opens you will see a text link that says something like "System Information." Click on it. That will give you the driver version you are using. 179.xx or 18x.xx, etc.

First thing you do is correctly update your drivers. (I learned this the hard way too). Then update the SLI profiles as you were instructed in this thread. All should be better now. (All the info is on that blog they linked to earlier).

Your card doesn't need to be at 0C to say SLI is not being utilized. From 30C to 80C it is clearly not being used in SLI. Profiles and Driver update will surely fix that ;)

Oh yeah, almost forgot. Go read Gizmo's guide even if you fix it. It's very good.

These are the 186.64 drivers, by the way. With nvidia drivers, you take the last five digits of the full version number with the dot shifted by two digits to the right with Nvidia drivers.

That little bit of info would have been so helpful the first week I had my M17x... First time using Nvidia and for my life I could never figure out what those numbers were.

    Thanks dude. lol
