If you mean the 2 little green boomerangs then yes they sould be there. 2 for SLI, 1 for integrated GPU.

Make sure the icon is not hidden because it's been inactive. Check your notification area properties.

If you have Hybrid mode enabled in BIOS, you won't be able to disable SLI in Windows, because Hybrid SLI is also an SLI feature and SLI needs to be enabled for you to be able to switch between the integrated 9400M and your dedicated video cards on the fly in Windows.
To be able to disable SLI in Windows, you'll have to disable Hybrid SLI in the BIOS and disable the integrated Graphics in the BIOS as well. Of course doing so won't let you switch between your integrated graphics and your dedicated graphics on the fly in Windows anymore.

As for your original issue, make sure to enable Hybrid SLI in BIOS, start Windows, uninstall your Nvidia display drivers, reboot, reboot again, run driver sweeper, reboot again and install your Hybrid-SLI-capable video card drivers again.
