i paid for the extended warranty after i got my M17X, but i didn't gt the full one where you can drop it and spill stuff on it and get a new one. my speakers have stoped working and i can't do anything to fix them, so i think i will try to get it fixed by dell... i have heard good and bad things about sending them back.
so 1. will they fix mine and send MINE back, or will i get a different one.
    2. will they wipe out all my stuff.
    3. how long does it take.
    4. do i have to pay for anything (shipping, repair, box to ship in).
i dont ahve the papers with me right now, but i think that the warranty is pretty standard, so i should be covered for this kind of thing right? it seemed to happen when i use mmy hdtv with it, then the sound quit and even after a clean os install it wont work.

Do you know if your warranty is 'at home' or 'collect and return'?

Warranty terms also depend on your Country.

But usually they pay fior shipping both ways.

I usually remove my Hard Drive and keep it with me

as mentioned by robot above, your warranty will state At Home, Or Carry In, Or Return To Depot coverage.

For replacing speakers repair time should be quick, usually the depot turns things around 24 - 48 hours, unless parts are back ordered.

If you check online at Dells site with yor service tag in the support section, you should be able to see what level of warranty coverage you have.

WHY would your peers (here) know the answer better than tech support?
You already paid for extended warranty, USE IT.

If it's 'next working day' then that means they would come to your home/office and fix it there and then. So there's nothing to worry about

They will send a technician to your place and replace whatever parts are damaged. There is no need to send your laptop anywhere, unless you get a new replacement (that only happens if they have sent out a tech to repair your system for the same issue three times already and couldn't fix it), but even then you only send it in after you receive your replacement.
That's how it works in most countries, at least. But it may be different in some.

that sounds great then. i'll have to call them up soon. i just hope he/she doesn't take one look at it and say "your fault, not covered in warranty."

In the Chicago suburbs, Dell uses UNISYS for their tech's. The first tech came in to replace my mobo, which was because of the bad copy of Command Center on the Resource Disk. Sure I used the disk, the tech didnt blink and installed the new board. Second visit was because the Bluetooth card was blown too, but not evident when the mobo was bad, replaced without question.

Just remember, these are hardware tech's. Provide a clean space for them to work and they will appear and disappear just as quickly.
