I've got the tv tuner card installed on this M17 and searched the posts but cannot find out how to exactly hook up the M17 to a TV satellite receiver so I can view television on the laptop and record onto dvd some recordable programs. there are RCA connections on the back of the satellite box and an s-video out port. There is also a digital audio coax out port and optical audio out on the satellite box. There is also an optical connection. There is also an HDMI but I found out the HDMI on the M17 is for out only. I'm not looking to record in HDMI but just regular TV. If it's not possible I'd sure like to find that out also. My last Sony laptop allowed me to do it with rca connections but the M17 doesn't have RCA ports. I think I read in a post I need to use the coaxial port on the M17. I found the adaptor that came with the M17 for the coaxial port but how do I get that hooked up to rca ports on the satellite box or would I use another method?

I;m not familiar with the m17, but certainly since the m9750 is so similar i'd think the m17 has the same. The m9750 has two S-Video ports, one is for input one for output. I'd think the m17 has the same so just hook it up with an s-video cable to the box and the sound should go in the audio in port which should be near the input s-video port. You will probably need an RCA to 3.5mm adapter to input the sound if you dont already have one.
What Satellite box is this incidentally?

Iwish it was that easy. The M17 has no S-Video ports. I've tried hooking up the M17's optical port to the optical port on the sat receiver with no result but snow. Then hooked up the M17's coax port to the out coax on the back of tv and got snow. Been thinking I have the M17's coax adaptor so if I can get another adaptor to hook onto the coax to turn it into three rca plugs then plug that into the receiver maybe I can get something going. Haven't been able to tell if the M17's coax port is for both audio and video. If so, then maybe the three rca plug adaptor idea might work. I think I'll give that a try. You'd think there would be a post somewhere about the subject. I can't be the only one who has thoiught of this. Shame the M17's HDMI port is only output.

Theres a simple reason why the HDMI port is only output, your not supposed to copy things over HDMI so i doubt anyone will be making an device which'll work straight with an input HDMI. The coaxial port is your other option, hook it up using standard COAX cable into the Coax input on the laptop and tune to it's channel using a channel scan on the application your recording with. It's normal for you to get snow if your not tuned into the correct channel. Most satellite receivers have a hidden menu where you can find out what the output RF channel is set at. On UK sky receivers you go into either Services, (newer boxes settings) and press 0, 1 Select. You can then tune into the channel directly from your recording application.
