When I ordered my Laptop there were two items on back order, the backlit keyboard and the 2.8 extreme keyboard. I didnt feel like waiting for the 2.8 and ordered up the 2.5. Am I missing much in performance by not getting the 2.8? Should I upgrade to the 2.8? Is it even possible to upgrade to the 2.8? Ive read that the one good thing about the 2.8 is that you can overclock it, which I dont plan on doing.

PS I have a m17x if that matters for those that dont know.

the performance difference is most definitely not worth the upgrade price. 2.5GHZ will serve you well.

Agreed. You are not missing anything; the only difference between the T9300 and the X9000 is 300MHz of clockspeed. And yes, I know the X9000 can be overclocked but not in the M15X; Alienware doesn't provide any controls to do that.

if you dont care about warranty, use setfsb to overclock your 2.5 to 2.8 easily

except nobody knows the m15x' PLL number, so no dice.

as for the m17, i think FSB pumping has been done by some OCers.
