im trying to order a m17x, im gonna be going into engineering, and i need a computer that is able to run some of the programs required, im thinking like 3d simulation or design.
and im gonna be gaming on it also, maybe wow. ill be bringing my 360, so i dont see y ill need two graphics cards.
would a single be enough to run the newest games out on pc quite well or should i go for the dual
my system will have dual core 2.8 ghz, 4g ddr3 at 1333mhz

    dual cards is better

drop to 1066 ram to save $50 and help pay for it

The laptop will game much better than 360 since graphics are so much more powerful

Why not just get one card for now?

Wow doesn't support sli well, if a single 260 isn't enough, you can always sell it, for dual 280m in the future.

If your 3D apps are CUDA enabled, the dual GPUs will help in rendering as well. It's worth checking the support forums for the programs you will be using to see if there is a benefit.

for 3d rendering the CPU and RAM will comprise 75% of the rendering and a single GPU will be fine

What moo said, unless CUDA is being used the CPU is the main workhorse

for mainly playing WoW, you'll be fine with a sinlge 260. I have a single 260 and have everything maxed in WoW. Runs as well as my desktop machine.
