So I just got my r2 yesterday. As you can see in my sig it has two ssd's in raid 0 is there any way anyone knows of to get trim working in raid?thanks
-
Are you using the intel controller driver or did you remove it from the system and use the windows 7? Intel does have an updated controller driver that should allow it in raid.
Check this out.

Trim doesn't work in raid 0 yet.
-
thanks kilthro according to hwinfo 32 trim is working.

I am thinking about buying some SSD and running in RAID0. So accroding to the hwinfo32 pic above, that means TRIM is enabled and working?
-
lol, no. Not on raid. The drives support it, but it doesn't run.
-
the new Intel rapid storage driver enables trim on raid 0.
here is proof.

I used drivecontroller located here
Drive Controller Info - AHCI / TRIM Detection - XtremeSystems Forums
to test if Trim was enabled. -
This is what Intel states. He can also run the command at the prompt to see if trim is running.
"Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST)
Is there TRIM support for RAID configurations?
Intel® Rapid Storage Technology 9.6 supports TRIM in AHCI mode and in RAID mode for drives that are not part of a RAID volume.
A defect was filed to correct the information in the Help file that states that TRIM is supported on RAID volumes." -
It also says trim enabled.

True he can run the command.
-
Anyone have any reliable SSD RAID 0 benchmarks compared to just SSD?
-
I ran the command and it says trim is enabled.
If DisableDeleteNotify=0 TRIM is Enabled.
If DisableDeleteNotify=1 TRIM is Disabled.Attached Files:

That command confirms that Windows do actually pass the TRIM command to the SSD. Also there is no way we can disable it. It doesn't confirm though that TRIM works.
The way I would test to see if it works is to to copy many GB of data and run benchmarks, if the performance degrades a lot then it means that TRIM doesn't work in RAID yet.
I would test it but my SSD is SLC and doesn't support TRIM. -
It is a mistake lots of sites picked up improper information. Go directly to Intel s site and they explain that it has Trim on SSD but not in RAID Do some Google research and you will see the correction
-
go to the command prompt and run it as administrator. Probably have to right click. the at the command prompt type "fsutil behavior query disabledeletenotify " if it comes back as "0" then the system is sending the TRIM command. if it comes back as "1" your system is not sending the TRIM command.

Interesting find.
anyone wants to comment? -
Announcement: A note on Intel® RST 9.6 drivers and TRIM compatibility
Intel® RST 9.6 supports TRIM in AHCI and pass through modes for RAID. A bug has been submitted to change the string that indicates TRIM is supported on RAID volumes (0, 1, 5, 10). Intel is continuing to investigate the ability of providing TRIM support for all RAID volumes in a future release.

I've tried to explain that it doesn't actually work in raid 0, but he can't get it through his head, lol. I don't think if the president of Intel called him and told him it is actually not working in raid, he would still think it is working.
-
every test on my pc says its working the release notes on the driver say it works just not in raid 5. i have found many sites that says it works and many places that say it doesn't work. Im sure for everything you can find different opinions. I bet somewhere i can find a site that says elephants are red.
-
And, for some reason you don't understand that the people that developed it, says it doesn't work. Intel, is who you should listen to. But, go ahead and keep dreaming.
-
they also say it works.read the release notes.
-
And, you still can't comprehend what they stated about that.
"A defect was filed to correct the information in the Help file that states that TRIM is supported on RAID volumes."
Like what was stated by others before, do a little searching on their site and forums. But, it seems you just want to keep kidding yourself, lmao. -
If you read the first post When i started this thread I asked if trim worked I did not support one side or the other.I am just running multiple test that say trim is working. You say it isn't working Intel says it is and it isn't so i am just trying to get all the info i can. If it makes your ego feel better,YOU WERE RIGHT.(fingers crossed)
-
So if i wanted to un raid my pc how would that work?
-
Back up the data that you need, unRAID the disks from the BIOS, secure erase them to restore their performance and do a new installation. The other option is to make an image but I never liked that with SSDs.
-
is Ubuntu the best option for secure erase or something else?
-
So far yes, unless you have a desktop or a laptop with BIOS that doesn't lock the SSD and you can use HDDerase
-
It's not my ego. If I didn't care if you were misinformed I wouldn't bother posting.
ssd raid 0
