i just got my m15x about a couple of days ago. I don't know that much bout this stealth mode. But, as far as i have read, the stealth mode is suppose to downclock its cpu and gpu and making the laptop less noisy. Yet when i turn on stealth mode the laptop becomes noisier than when stealth mode is off!
Is this normal? is it downclocking my gpu and cpu but it is just noisy or is it mixed up?
In advance.....thanks.

hey fyzzzyy
unfortunately i do not own an m15x but i would like to give my opinion, which is i dont think that would be normal, considering you are downclocking your processor which means you probably reduce ur fan speed which also means that the computer should output less noise.
sorry i cant be of more help. hopefully somebody who owns an m15x can answer your question better than me.
cheers! -
It does indeed downclock the GPU and CPU, and though there are some unanswered questions as to how much (specifically on the CPU-side), doing so, should cause both devices in question to produce less heat, and therefore need less fan power to keep them cool.
almost sounds like your BIOS needs the update... if you can get the x32RC1 bios from myhive and apply it... or merely check the bios next time you restart (F2 on post... when you see the alien head, first screen)... It says the BIOS version number on the first screen.
Also, in my experience, Stealth mode often defaults-on when on battery, or starting up... not always, but frequently. you may be turning stealth off rather than on... just a thought. considering I'm confused as to which I do half the time... I have to push the button 3-4 times to ensure I'm in the right mode. -
Hi fuzzzyy and welcome to the forum.
it sounds like yours is in reverse.
are you sure you wasnt in stealth mode and then when you pressed it it actually turned it of and not on.
when you press stealth the on screen display will show it as dim when it is off and brighter when it is on.
is this what is happening with yours. -
@Mystik
it doesnt turn on stealth mode when you are on battery. when you are on battery and turn on stealth mode it makes the laptop even slower. stealth mode turns on, on startup if you shut down when you were in stealth mode. I would check to see if you were going out of stealth mode or going into stealth mode.
Use Rivatuner to see if stealth mode lowers your clocks. if it doesnt then you have an error. -
I realize, but there have been times that I've booted my laptop, and it's been in stealth mode... I don't directly recall leaving it in Stealth, it just now is...
I use stealth a lot, so it might just be my inadequate observation.
I agree with exiled, use RivaTuner. It'll give you the best GPU-oriented tests.
And finally, to clarify, the GPU doesn't get any slower from stealth to battery or vice-versa. It's the CPU that gets hit on batteries by turning stealth on... but if you really want to extend battery life on batteries, try BinaryGFX + Stealth. Using the Intel graphics and a downclocked CPU and only one of two fans can really save a huge chunk of electrical change in terms of batteries.
just my $.02. -

Anyone remember that link? 'cause thats how I got it...
P.S. @Alienware, as an 8700M-GT user, with the x29 bios (your 'recommended' bios for my card), I would downclock quite simmilarly to the 8800 series. the X32RC1 BIOS fixed the problem. I respectfully request that you release the x32RC1 BIOS (or next release, if it's soon), to all m15x users.
Thanks -
As of now my BIOS is vX32 P3A33
Where can i find and download this new BIOS?
Thanks -
you will need your new account number to register on there(this number is different from your original account number).
this number can be found on the white card that is in your instruction binder or at the top of the document on your desktop called "My Alienware" -
I don't see anywhere that I download the BIOS X32RC1 -
Hi Fuzzzyy,
The new bios isn't available for the 8700 card. The only thing you can do is play with the newest driver.
