    I'm trying to talk myself into buying my first laptop, a m17x r3. I would like to buy the full coverage they offer. How does it work? Lets say I buy the 4 year plan, and lets say 4 years from now, with better computers they release I decide to smash the thing and toss it into water. Will they give me a brand new computer? Or just give me store credit.

    So in other words, you're asking us to help you cheat the system and, in effect, successfully steal money from a legit company? If I were affiliated with Dell in any way, I'd track you down and make sure you're banned from buying any Dell products. You'd better hope there's no higher-up Dell employees lurking these forums.

    It's people like you who raise the price for everyone else. If a bunch of people just like you decide to break their laptops on purpose just to exploit Dell's insurance plan, you can bet that Dell will raise the price of their coverage plans in the future to cover the enormous costs. Just like car insurance, what happens when a bunch of 20 year-olds decide to crash their cars just so they can get new cars? The price of insurance goes up for all 20 year-olds, even the ones who drive safely.

    You buy the "accidental" coverage for just that -- accidents. Anything else is akin to robbery. If you purposefully destroy your computer in hopes of getting a new computer, and Dell finds out, then they will definitely not reimburse you in any form.

    Please be a little bit more thoughtful when posting on these forums. I assume you're smart enough to have figured out the shady idea of yours by yourself. There's no need to announce your immaturity to everyone else on this forum.

    Wow sorry you had to type a huge wall of text to rage about nothing. okay let me rephrase for people who are going to have a heart attack. so what if it was a accident, that my wife in a rage grabs my computer and throws it into the pool? Will I get a new computer. All im asking is how the warranty works. Not how you feel about abusing a warranty I had to pay good money for. Thanks for nerd raging, I got a good chuckle.

    I was simply trying to put it into a simple term how does it work. Again sorry to those who took offense, but then again when your paying a huge amount for a 4 year coverage, its to be expected.

    Don't accuse me of "raging" unnecessarily when you clearly had the intention to exploit Dell's warranty in mind. You obviously were trying to ask if you could purposefully destroy your computer in order to get a new one from Dell. You wrote it in plain English, and everyone here can read it. There's no need to deny and say that you meant something else. Now you look dumb and immature for trying to hide what you originally said. Nice try though.

    And like I said, you're a big boy. Figure it out. This isn't quantum physics.

    Accidental warranty = "so what if it was a accident" = can you guess what that means?

    Run along now child.

    I find accidental warranty an overkill unless you are a skydiver who goes skydiving with the laptop.

    I bought 4 years standard warranty because all I need is protection against hardware failure.

    @OP
    You cant fake an accident. Dell is not stupid and they may charge you for fraud if you try to do it (no offense).

    Go for 4 years standard instead and save some cash for other upgrades.
