Oh my cowish toad, you've beaten my record for the hottest natural living/gaming room on NBR. I'm gonna have to change my title now =O

Due to the fact that playing Battlefield 4 + Streaming said game apparently turns my CPU in to the equivalent of molten lava (hotter than using high profile, "slower" preset encoding using handbrake by FIFTEEN degrees celcius) I think I might need to acquire me some of this liquid ultra.... =O. Honestly, being a streaming like I am, the extra cooling will probably allow me to use stock voltage and maybe even an OC to 3.8GHz which will actually help immensely since my upload speed is garbage that's powered by a ripe fig tree with two spark plugs inserted into the trunk and the slowest encoding compression I can use for each game I stream is the best thing to do. I'd like to start using "slow" instead of "medium" for most things =D.

Welp, time to save! At least I now know how to properly remove both liquid ultra and IC Diamond. Might as well do it for my GPUs too if the heatsinks aren't aluminum (I'm not certain). I'd like to be able to run my overclocks if I so feel like it with maybe a 0.12v increase on the cores and not need it to be near midnight for the room to be cool enough.

Owner of the second hottest room. Or just Owner of the 34C gaming room to avoid any future conflicts.

GPU heatsinks are copper for the core and aluminum for the rest of the card. As long as you don't get any Liquid Ultra on those parts you're fine. But honestly, you may see greater benefits from lapping your GPU heatsinks than using Liquid Ultra -- if contact pressure is lacking due to a warped plate, Liquid Ultra won't do you too much good either. See this post from TI and subsequent ones.

There's actually two problems with those air conditioning units XD.
The first problem is that we don't have a "Home Depot" in Trinidad and 3rd-world-bago. The second is that $1 USD = $6.45 TTD (that's how much we usually pay at the bank, not the actual conversion value). So the cheapest of those units would be $1799.55 + international shipping + duty because it's not a computer part or office supplies

Not sure what you mean... split system? I have been using that machine for several years and it does a really excellent job at what I need it to do. It's perfect for extreme overclocked benching, but it also keeps my office nice and frosty in the summer. (Our central AC is set on 70°F year round to keep Mrs. Fox happy, but over 65°F I start getting grumpy.)

That's a lot of money, but if I were in your shoes I would be looking for some personal relief from those sweltering temperatures as well as some relief for the laptop. I have a harder time with "thermal management" than my laptop does, LOL. I should be a polar bear like Brother Stevie Jones rather than a Fox... in fact, I know that I would be happier working in a meat locker than I would be in a tropical resort.

Yep, you can always put on more clothes if you're cold, but you can't keep stripping till you're naked if you're too hot!

I know right? I want to get an A/C for this place but I'll have to remodel/close up the openings (quite literally the top of the walls have metal rods for 1.5 to 2 feet in height which is literally just open to the air. The problem is being so high, it doesn't allow for much if any air flow as the hang down of the roof blocks breeze blowing at it. The other problem is that this room I'm in is very large. Getting a full-on AC is something I seriously want, but unless I just happen in to about 20,000 dollars it isn't happening. I could have actually made the choice of "get this P370SM3 or get an AC" but then I'd have been left without a computer (as my D900F refused to turn on but 1 week after I got this clevo).

I have no idea what this is. If it's fairly recent tech (3-4 years old) it'll be extremely expensive if we have them though. I do live in a third world country XD. I mean the best upload in the WHOLE country is 3Mb and the lowest ping you get outside our country is ~90 (usually 110-120) in games. The computer stores still tell people that GTS 250s are good cards and will happily sell you 8800GTX cards for $1800 (our currency; just about $260 or so to you maybe?). Half our cable is taken from Venezuela as it's cheaper, but our country doesn't speak spanish so about 30% of the channels are impossible to watch. Here is not a good place for any techie or anybody who even likes being current with hardware.

Dumbdumb, as per the Nvidia thread. Just incase you didn't know there is a group voicechat function in Steam which you and Mr Fox, Svl7, Johnkss could use if everyone can get onboard and meet at a convenient time.

My buddy also has SLI 780Tis and an i7-4930K that we put together the parts for him to order and build, but he got that while he was working at microsoft in canada before coming down to visit us here.

Actually we do. I had just never heard them called by that name. I had to Google it to figure out what you were referring to. The reverse cycle feature is apparently new jargon for "heat pump" LOL. Heat pumps are not effective where I live compared to an actual furnace because the winters are too cold, but I have a split system minus the reverse cycle feature in my master bedroom to supplement our central AC.

This is what we have Multi Head Split System Air Conditioners - Mitsubishi Electric. This is a fantastic product, but it is not suitable for extreme overclocked benching. First problem is that it is not portable, mounted on the wall up by the ceiling, so I would have to fabricate some kind of shroud with a duct or something to channel all of the cold air output from the wall unit to the right spot underneath my laptop. Additionally, spending thousands of dollars versus $500~ for something to blow high velocity cold air into a laptop and make my 10x10 office freezing cold is way too expensive. What I am using for currently for this purpose is ideal because it is inexpensive, extremely simple, totally self-contained, highly effective, and requires nothing extra. It's even on wheels, so I can use it anywhere I feel like using it.

Here's the model I am using for this purpose: DeLonghi Pinguino N Series PACN100E 10,000-BTU Room Portable Air Conditioner w/Remote Control | Walmart

I mean... JUST TALK VIA GROUP CHAT! Why don't they want it? They are too important for talking to anyone? I have a feeling that they just spoil the time. Lets see further.

How bad is it in Ozzy? Are gas prices also ridiculous? It's about $1.1 USD per litre in California, but in Canada it's gone up to about $1.4 per litre I believe, absolutely criminal.

So really its seems like Nvidia are keeping pretty quite about this one. I know one of the Nvidia crew is experimenting with a AW17 to try and replicate the behavior but it seems to me Nvidia are giving absolute Zero cares about doing anything in an official capacity. I don't see any signs or any urgency to rectify an already well documented problem.

For shame Nvidia, for shame. I'm glad a didn't downgrade to these abominations.

Mine is probably coming tomorrow. I'm considered selling it and building a gaming desktop, and then purchasing the gtx880 when it comes out + getting a laptop for all my normal stuff. But I can't find a decent 17.3" lighter laptop which is great for everything expect graphical intense things. I miss the RGB LED screens dell used to offer in some XPS laptops 4/5 years ago.

But I really need an all in one, a desktop would be so inconvenient for me.
I think I'll just repaste my 4940mx with liquid ultra, along with the gtx880ms and I will keep them running stock for now. Should I flash a modded vbios? Nvidia can't fix this with a simple driver update, right?

Hopefully this is fixed soon and fingers crossed the gtx880m will perform better than the gtx780m at least.

I'm officially giving up if this issue isn't resolved by the weekend. I'll be calling up Alienware as of Monday to hopefully get a refund for both Alienwares that I own. Thanks for trying Manuel, but it appears Nvidia doesn't have any motivation to resolve this problem. It's been almost a month now and we still haven't really seen any movement from your QA team.

ManuelG uses 340.52 river for testing. Maybe somebody should try this one?

I want to put the GTX 880M Alienware M18xR1, will this card work in my laptop? Can you give me the vBios GTX 880M from slv7. Can't download it from TECH INFERNO. Thank you.

Please don't do it. I have not seen an example of 880M SLI functioning correctly in an M18xR1. I have seen examples of it not functioning correctly. Even if yours turned out to be the first example of it functioning properly, 880M is inherently defective. The vBIOS mod from svl7 should help it work better, but it doesn't totally fix everything that NVIDIA botched up with 880M. I would urge you to use only 680M or 780M for the upgrade. Unless you get a bad GPU (which is rare) an excellent outcome can be taken for granted with 680M or 780M. If you want to take a risk on something that may or may not work correctly, 980M would be the better risk to take. If 980M works in the M18xR1 it will be better than 680M or 780M, both of which are better better GPUs than 880M.

We can't control what people do by email or PM, but putting up links in this forum to download vBIOS files from Tech|Inferno is not permitted here. Showing respect for the rare and valuable skills and talents of people like Prema and svl7 is the right thing to do. You need to earn the right to download the files like everyone else has, by having a meaningful post count (active participation in the community) or by paying a very small, one-time fee for elite status to bypass the participatory requirements.

I am closing this thread. Further discussion on GTX 880M belongs here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...eriencing-problems-880m-list-them-here-6.html and/or here: Nvidia crippling the gtx 880ms with there new drivers (look for a nvidia response) - GeForce Forums
