hi again folks.
i recently bought a usb 2.0 extension, it has 4 outs to 1 in on it. however , whenever i plug it in to my m15x, im told it would perform faster if i plugged it into a usb 2.0 port. i have tried it in all 3 usb ports on the laptop and it says the same each time. forgive me if im wrong, but i thought all the usb ports on the m15x were supposed to be usb 2.0? do i need to install something, i though usb drivers were part of the OS?
any help is greatly appreciated![]()

yep,they are usb 2 ports.
dont know why you should be getting that warning. has the extention got a mains adapter.this also speeds them up as you are not taking the power from the computer. -
yes it has mains, and yes, it is plugged in lol. its rather annoying, i have noticed it seems to take a while to put tracks on my ipod. when the message appears, it tells me there are 2 usb 2.0 host controllers, one with 6 ports all unused, and one with 4 ports, all unused? very strange if you ask me. i have something plugged into all the usb ports on the laptop, so why is it saying all are unused?

that other one is the internal USB controller.

ok, i think it was the actually usb extender. ive unplugged it this morning and plugged the devices into the actual laptop, and theres no message. but now, when i plug the expander back in, its telling me its malfunctioned!! its made by advent, which i though was a reasonable brand. maybe not. anyone know a decent make of usb expansion?

ok, just got in, and basically, when i plug it in its saying "can perform faster" again, so i moved my ipod around the usb ports on the laptop and they are showing as the first 3 ports in the 6 port controller. and there is the 4 port controller and in that it says, generic usb device on port 2. not sure what the 4 port one is, as there is nothing plugged into the expander, and its showing it as usb 2.0, yet it says it isnt when i plug it in. confusing i know, sorry lol.

I don't know anyone with a "good" USB HUB. I just don't think such a thing actually exists.
You could burn through the brands looking for one, or search online till you found someone who was actually HAPPY with their USB HUB...
probably the hardest part would be to find one that's USB 2.0 that doesn't melt when you use it. -
great lol. i really could do with a decent one, mine is working now, but its definately not running the 2.0 spec as its really slow. ive got a lot of things to plug in, ext hdd. printer, ipod, carmera, mouse etc. and my g/f is here when im at work and doesnt really know which lead is which lol, so its just alot easier to have them all plugged in!
