Recently, my Alienware Area-51 m7700 laptop's screen started to display weird pixelation and would often lock up. I replaced the screen, reinstalled the video drivers, and upgraded my BIOS but the problem has not gone away, so it must be the videocard.
It is currently an ATI Mobility Radeon x800. I called Alienware support but they said they no longer recieve shipments of that card so I need to know what other cards would fit and where to find them.
I am just looking for the cheapest replacement and what i would need to do to install it. Any help is much appreciated.

The X800 is to my recollection the first graphics card the m7700 shipped with.
The graphics cards which are compatible with your system are:
nVidia 6800
nVidia 6800 Ultra
nVidia 7800GTX
nVidia 7900GTX
nVidia 7950GTX
nvidia Quadro FX1400M
nVidia Quadro FX2500M
I am pretty sure the ATi X800 was the only ati card offered but I could be wrong on that
If you are looking for a cheap graphics upgrade, you may want to check the 6800 or the 6800ultra. Those are more powerful than the X800, but they are probably the cheapest of the cards mentioned.
They are probably about $150 for the lower end cards. the 7950GTX goes for around $550
The Quadro FX2500M goes for about $850
Please make sure to get the right one. The cards which the M7700 uses are Clevo proprietary graphics cards. They are not MXM.

you need to get a Clevo D900T/D900K videocard module for the m7700 (which is a re-branded Clevo).
they are like these:

much thanks for the links, but any cheaper models out there? those are a bit expensive, i was looking at maybe $300 tops
-
lol laptop cards are expensive might wanna look at a new laptop lol pretty cheapish now and way more powerful .....get a 9800 gt for 1 k
-
you may want to search ebay, for cheaper video cards. I am not sure why z-tronics has them for so much money. I dont think those cards are even worth that much. he 7950GTX used to sell for $550-600 on rjtech.

that graphics card is not compatible with the D900K/D900T
The graphics cards for the M7700 look like this: (obviously the heatsink sits ontop)

These are the only ones I can find on ebay, which will work with your system

I know nbr member KingHong1970 has a 7950GTX which he is willing to part with, or his 7800GTX. I think he wanted $550 for his 7950GTX.
I am amazed how expensive these cards are going for on ebay
If you arent attached to your laptop, it would probably be a better idea to sell the parts and buy a new one.

actually, the M590K/KE (AW mALX) videocard module should still be compatible, just use the current heatsink/fan assembly that you are using.

???
How can it be compatible. The Malx one has three ports which connect to the motherboard. The graphics cards for the D900T and D900K have two ports which connect to the motherboard.

I have a 7800GTX module for the Clevo D900K on Ebay (Europe), see here
Can mail to US but will have to work out how much it is, will be a bargain though as there's not many bidders out there! -
Gophn also stated in that thread that the mALX cards were compatible. So, which is it? Are the mALX cards compatible or not. Did Clevo make 2 different kinds of 79xx GTX series cards, one with 2 connectors and one with 3 connectors for M590k/mALX boards? If have heard several other places say that the d900T and d900k supported up to 7900gtx. Is that false, then, or were there two types of GPU?
Thanks!
Edit: I just found a site online that sells a D900T series laptop with the 7950gtx. So there must be some 7950gtx that works with these systems. -
The D900T and D900K can support up to the 7950GTX
I have no idea why Clevo came out with a different port layout for the malx.
That third connector must be for something.
I dont understand how Gophn can backup how he states it will work, when the ports are different. I wouldnt take the chance, cause I highly doubt it will work

I said it is very possible. -
he said she said why the he** not do it huh whoooooo

Hello everybody, did anyone actually conclude if the m59k (AW mALX) video card does indeed work with the d900T/K laptop? Please help...
