dang my m17x seem to boot up faster. I have the 320gb hard drive as a boot up drive. But cool video. but mine boots up in like 50 sec.

But the fact is I did a clean install also.

i get similar times with my m15x, about 47 seconds. i've got a 7200rpm drive, so that should make a difference right?

actually bigger hard drivers are faster due to platter density. the 320 should be faster than your 160.

yeah but if it's a 5400rpm drive, that might negate the density advantage..

you should see the desktop i was on. before i got the m15x i was using a desktop with a ati radeon x800, 1 gig of ddr1 ram, and a 3.0 ghz Petnium 4. to give you an idea of how weak it is, 3dmark 06 gives me 1,600 something. using the m15x made such a world of difference  .

Actually no, I had a chance to replace my m15x with the m17x, but instead I ended up returning the m17x. It's true that it has a better build quality, but the m15x has some advantages over the m17x (which I care about). First, it's thinner and smaller (at least it fits easily in my bag). Second, It has a great battery life (I get up to 3 hours on a 6-cell while the m17x can't even get 2 hours with a 12-cell). Third, Binary GFX. And Finally, it's the most flexible 15-inch notebook on the planet (Smart bay is a smart feature :D).

In the end the m15x and the m17x are way too different systems. Each system has its advantages and disadvantages; you pick the one depending on your needs. The m17x is more powerful because of dual graphics and has dual hard drives in RAID configuration (that makes it faster too); that makes it a better gaming machine. On the other side the m15x has all what I said above; which in my opinion makes it a better "All In One" machine.

    @topic

Thanks for the great video man! Hope you enjoy your m17x omaryunus

i can beat that without breaking a sweat. 3ghz Pentium 4, 512mb DDR1 RAM, ATI Radeon x300, 80gig HDD. never ran 3dmark on it because i probably wouldn't have been able to handle the shame... :D

the difference between it and my m15x is, to say the least, profound.

    wow, just wow.

my current desktop is a Core2 Duo at 1.8Ghz, 4GB RAM (recently upgraded from 1), and an XFX Geforce 8600 GT...

before that... My "Gaming Rig" was...

    Abit KR7A-133RAID
    AMD Athlon XP 1800+ (1.53Ghz)
    512 MB DDR1 RAM (at 266Mhz)
ATI Radeon 9000 Pro (I believe it had 64MB)
2x8GB 5400RPM drives in RAID 0 (mounted as C:/Program Files)
    60GB HDD for C:
80GB HDD for extra storage (Labelled "big" heh)
Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 Value with the Optical I/O card (to digitally link my system to my sound system, a 5.1 Surround sound JVC unit, total output: 600Watts)

    Yeah... that system ROCKED!

that sucks... on my "Gaming Rig" Above I had bought a 3rd party Radeon 9600 Pro card (this was when ATI was first starting to let 3rd party vendors build cards), and after about 6 months, it died. going from a 9600 to a 9000 kinda sucked balls.

nothing like what you're going through though.

thanks for sharing that video. i remember that capt mcmillan mission. it was the hardest one to beat on veteran. i had to hide in a shack and then carry him and run for my life. took me like 2 hours of constant trying to get it.

I sent a line to alienware asking them if the m17x and the power brick both fit in the messenger bag. Should have an answer soon.

I heard that they don't fit in the hardshell briefcase though.

Just got the messenger bag yesterday, and it fits really snug. A power brick, mouse, external hard drive will also fit. It's a really nice bag.

If you check out my review page I posted a bunch of messengerbag pictures.
