http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/12/alienware-area-51-m15x-owners-outraged-by-overheating-cracking/
I think its clear - the messege is out :X
-
now lets see a patch for the heating problem ..ehehhe
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
its great that its out there, now lets hope AW take noitce and sort things out.
-
I guess there is a reason why 8800gtx are not supposed to be installed in a 15.4 inch computers...
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
i just had to laugh at that
but we will see if Sager can do it right then AW should be able to do it right. -
Thats great. I love the fact they actually listened.
-
Lethal Lottery Notebook Betrayer
yikes some of the comments there are pure evil particullay " hahahahaha fail" and " alienware is for noobs gg"
-
-
Frankly i can say that although im not an AW fan,but i submitted a post there defending NotebookReview coz those dum newbs there are just taking this as an opportunity to go mud-slinging at notebooks and frankly im disgusted that they wont even have a look at the input provided by actual AW owners.....
Btw , you can be sure that im tracking the whole heating+cracks issues very carefully and i wish i could do more to help than just reading up on progress made so far by various people like Chaz etc..... -
They might as well have had stuck a 7950M GTX when it came out on a 15"4 laptop when that card came out.
Or underclocked the slightly 8800M GTX ( like Apple did in my 15"4 MBP).
-
Someone should submit that article to digg.com and then we all need to pitch in to get it to the frontpage. That should generate quite a bit more attention to the subject.

I assure you Alienware is working on this, I think putting it on Engadget was the most significant thing you guys could have done.
-
Why do u get stupid posters on there saying . yr own fault u should of bought a desktop.
We arnt stupid we want something we take take anywhere -
Remember that it's Endgagdet... not NBR. NBR to you is like home. But the internet out there is like the world to a tadpole that just leaps from it's pond into the ocean and becomes a frog..
So basically more people voicing their opinions... not just notebook loving people.. And yea, I agree with you! People buy notebooks for a reason ~ Portability... You can't carry a desktop around. That voids all the desktop comments there. Take them with a grain of salt and ignore completely!
-
Just ignore them. My current desktop is more powerful than any M15x configuration.
-
great work stone. We started a movement =]
-
Don't worry about stupid posters on engadget. It doesn't matter what immature people have to say. The only thing that matters is that alienware will now feel some pressure to fix the issue.
-
I agree with Prasad007 99.9%.. Didn't understand the tadpole analogy
Also all the AW haters/fakers are sure to love pointing a finger and laughing at what engadget seems to have blown a little out of proportion (the cracking issue - I only recall 2 users having that problem)
Concerning the heating issue - What's with the "nuclear reactor in a laptop"-like comments ?!
Sigh Out Loud !! Sure beats reading the small flaming session Steve got today.. These guys are funny -
well the number of people with cracks is rising... now "daveh98" has also a crack.
-
Anyyyyyway....I posted a comment on endgadget just to try an get a normal comment on there. I think there were two others that didnt bash alienware. We'll have to see. -
Oodle-Bear Alienware Mug, Testpilot
I want to know what manufacture has put nuclear reactors in there notebooks, bet they are fast...... wonder if they can play Crysis at full speed, until they overheat and then.... goodbye notebook oh, and the rest of my town ha ha ha ha
Well done guys, let's see what Alienware do next. We have made our point, guess it's time for them to make a move.
OB -
Why stop at nuclear reactors imo.. Let's get biofuel and solar power in there so we can make up for the electricity we're guzzling
Okay so we have Chaz's word that there's "a lot of engineers" are working on the heating/downclocking issue.. Let's see how that pans out..
Ps. I was sleeping when the whole "AW-Steve: Fake or Real" thing played out and just read the thread... No one got banned ?? -
Oodle-Bear Alienware Mug, Testpilot
Well it took Chaz "shouting" to sort them out, feel sorry for Steve in a way, although if he is "not replying" it's his own fault lol
Solar power would be good only problem is being indoors and in the UK being outside will usually involve rain, unless you're lucky. Not something a notebook would like lol
OB -
Well I'm sure they could rig it so that your solar panels are on an umbrella you can attach to your laptop
Rain problem solved ey ? Hehe
Oh and did my PM reach ya ? Not that there was a post office midway to create a problem.. Just wondering how fast the server handles 'em..
Chaz is the man.. He'll get things done (Not that AW should need others to tell 'em how to do their jobs) Or else the review is gonna hurt AW hard *Evil Grin*
-
All we need is a Quantum-Laptop, since they work either on or off
And I to am really impressed by the turnaround time by Alienware, at least in giving a response. It really is a pitty they dont have a live rep on these forums on a constant basis that can speak for the company on these issues, but thats life. -
its really awesome how they actually posted the pictures from this message forum. proves if people on this forum band together, things really can get done! AWESOME
-
Alienware's answer is quite obvious and totally inconclusive. It's like they said nothing.
-
Gotta love this:
-
Ahh, I see now, and global warming is caused by overheated laptops. It's a circle!
-
Global warming is caused by petrolheads.

news is spreading. hope we see a fix or update, before i get my system. -
Oodle-Bear Alienware Mug, Testpilot
Well if it's global warming causing problems with notebooks, how about they create a hydrogen fueled notebook. It could use a hydrogen fueles power generator, and the hydrogen could be piped across the board to cool the unit, for overclocking. It would produce H2O as an exhaust gas so be carbon neutral ha ha ha ha
I still think nuclear fission would work lol
Let's hope the "news" spreading is going to work?
OB -
someone can explain me how open/close the lid can cause crack on the lan connector? how can the hinge influence that part of the notebook?
-
Oodle-Bear Alienware Mug, Testpilot
I'm guessing the cause is the hinges slightly bending the chassis when the screen is opened. That part of the chassis is mostly hollow, as it seems to be the exhaust so no real structure and i'd guess the hinges don't have much to grip onto... Just my 2 bob's worth...

Good Job everyone on getting the issues out in the open, im sure in a week there will be more websites adding this information!
-
Congratulations "bad ass"
Of the small percent of Global Warming that is attributed to vehicles, most will be caused by people ignorant to how their engine is running, and who choose to ignore general maintenance and emissions until something breaks, or the vehicle fails on a test.
I'd also hardly call someone who buys a 4x4, or a big heavy SUV to drive in towns and to collect shopping a petrolhead.
Tuning for power, and tuning for economy are the same thing. Both parties want as much energy released out of the least amount of fuel as possible. A car running out of tune with poor mixture control is far more damaging to the environment than one that is kept tip-top and is burning efficiently. As are the heavier vehicles, when compared to the nimble light cars favoured by petrolheads.
This is the dumbest thing you've said yet. -

Please keep it on topic, thanks.

...
errrr well I'll be using my Alienware Area-51 M15x notebook to program my Emerald M3DK engine management system over a USB to RS232 interface using can-bus so that my engine is burning it's fuel efficiently, therefore reducing the toxic nitrious oxide and carbon monoxide gasses, and unnecessary carbon dioxide gasses that most neglected cars driven by people who couldn't care less about the workings of an engine will be obliviously pumping out.
I'll also be using it to switch between two fuel & spark maps, one that runs normally, and another that runs dangerously lean with very little advance to massively reduce fuel consumption for motorway journeys.
I'll also use this handy and powerful notebook to remind me of service intervals on consumable parts to reduce emissions and increase economy and performance.

That cracked me up EeekiE
well, Engagdet listened...
