Hey everyone,
As I've been watching some unboxing videos kindly linked by you guys, I've noticed that Alienware's laptops comes pre-wrapped in a black cloth sleeve.
I'm keen to know what everyone did with them. Is it useful? Is it durable? Or is it just another wrapping that you throw away.

Helps protect it when traveling.
-
I wonder if they would make you remove it at the airport before placing the laptop in the plastic container for screening?
-
I travel 6-8 times a year, basically it depends. Half of the time they asked me to remove the cover, the rest they didnt seem to care. Guess it depends on their mood
I use mine to clean the laptop from dust and as a cover when i travel
-
Thanks for the feedback guys
Seems like the cover is durable enough for multiple usage...that's really assuring because the last thing i want is a scratch due to travel.
Btw, speaking of scratches, how hard is it to actually cosmetically damage the M17x? -
I keep it when travelling.
-
What did you do with your M17x cardboard boxes?
A.) Threw them away
B.) Made a cardboard fort
C.) Go sledding with them
D.) Used them for inspiration to reply to this thread -
Kept them for future resale which is something everyone should do.
-
Hey guys, sorry to repeat the question but...
how hard is it to cosmetically damage the M17x? Anyone accidentally scratched or damaged theirs yet? -
People have reported scratching the lid with zippers from their bag so I would definitely use the sleeve to protect it.
-
There is nothing I can say to make this statement any better. My sole duty now is to just reemphasize what he just posted by quoting it and in the process complete the 10 character rule.

I use the sleeve on both my m15x and my M17x and am thankful to have them. Very easy to use and they actually are handy for pulling the laptops out oftheir carrying cases without scuffing the computers
I always save the boxing materials for resale, as I did with my mALX and my XPS M1210

I'll probably use it for my old Toshiba, which I'm giving to my stepdaughter.

My sleeve is in the box. I find it's too slippery to use when I stuff my computer in my bag. I can't really get a good grip on the computer with one hand when its in the sleeve, so I stopped using it.

Not hard at all. I had misplaced that case one day, and as I was carrying the laptop out the door it just barely nicked the little metal strip that holds screen doors shut... and now mine has a fairly noticeable silver gash along the side. Luckily it's small, but I've been a lot more careful with it ever since, and I ALWAYS use that sleeve now.azelexx said: ↑Hey guys, sorry to repeat the question but...

not hard at all the scratch trust me i have 3

Its annodized metal and anyone that knows about that is its good for laser engraving and supposed to be harder than the aluminum itself. good thing is if you know anyone who annodizes you can get a custom made colour, and laser engravings, so if you're laptop gets really scratched up, you can pay for it repainted, it is costly though.

The small one that held all the accessories and power adapter is currently leaning against my dresser, the larger one is currently sitting on my floor, holding up 3 other small cardboard boxes and a broken fan controller.averagejo3 said: ↑What did you do with your M17x cardboard boxes?

as a good rule of thumb with anything expensive, and as Mandrake and WaR pointed out:
ALWAYS save all the original packaging and contents for resale and/or warranty. If you have to send a system back, you are going to want to have the original packing. It also makes one hell of a presentation for resale value
I have an empty bedroom full of boxes in my house.....haha -
I use it when travelling. From experience, my M170 got really scratch bad when travelling even in the XPS bag.

Ahhh... The good old M170!Joebarchuck said: ↑I use it when travelling. From experience, my M170 got really scratch bad when travelling even in the XPS bag.Click to expand...
I had that clear plastic cover (XPS Armor or whatver they called it) to protect the back...
