This is a very strange problem..

I do video tutorials and use the laptop's integrated mic. I have done a few since i got my m17x and lest night i had a very strange problem. It records audio just fine for the first minute or two but after that the audio starts to sound like horrible static. To better understand what i mean go to the link below and skip ahead on the video until the problem becomes apparent, notice the noise artifacts start to fade in and not suddenly appear.

What could this be? The only thing i can think of that i have changed recently is i upgraded the video drivers from stock to 186.82. I am using windows vista..

Im really worried, i dont want to even consider the mic is broken and have to use the warranty... Is it possible it is a driver issue? Where can i get the latest audio drivers for my m17x?

    thanks

    Alex

If you haven't and it sounds like you haven't (you said all drivers are stock), run the updated IDT installer for the M17x. Here are the details:

    ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/audio/R240776.exe

Granted, the fix they list above is not what you are experiencing, however if you are on the original version of the IDT driver which shipped with the M17x, then Dell also released this patch:

PATCH (use only if you are going to stay with the OEM DRIVER) : ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/audio/R224163.exe

So. my suggestion is to update to the current version of the IDT audio driver (dont worry about the second link I posted, the patch isn't necessary as the issue should've been fixed with the current release).

Also, might be a good idea to update all of your drivers to current release. Command Center, OSD, RICOH, BIOS, Chipset, etc. Use the suggested install order when updating: http://4help.alienware.com/cgi-bin/alienware.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=6066
