    the 500gb 7200 rpm drive that comes with the M17x-R2??? i really hope its not seagate as i currently have 2 of the momentus 7200.4 hard drives, and i've had nothing but problems with them ever since i got them.

    Thats usually what they send out on that size.. Do you have the system? if so, you could check the BIOS or device manager. It should tell you the drive.

    open it and see or go to device manager

    Dell uses what ever they get.

    i dont have the system (yet, plan on purchasing one soon) but was just curious as to what drives they were if anyone knew off the bat. i'm | | that close to ordering an intel 160gb ssd + hitachi 7k500 from newegg, but didnt want to order the 7k500 if thats what came with the R2.

    Well its a crap shoot as they will use what they have at the moment.. you may get a decent drive you may not.. The past three systems have all been Seagate drives...IMO i go for the smallest drive and then put in what I want. I have the Intel ssd and WD 7200 secondary..

    so you use the ssd as primary drive for windows, programs, etc. and the ws 7200 as for movies, etc. ?

    Yes, I have win 7, my main apps, and wow on the ssd. The rest of stuff is on the WD drive. Music, videos, reg apps that I dont use all the time ect..

    My M17 had a seagate in it, so that may well be what's in it.

    well i just pulled the trigger on a 160 gb intel ssd from newegg, and icd-24 from frozencpu, which pretty much confirms that I will soon be a future owner of an M17x-R2.

    now to wait and see what my birthday brings me in the form of dell gift cards. hopefully enough to pump up the processor to an i7-820.

    yea thats wat i am doing as well, the laptop is to heavy already, any reduction in weight is helpful.
