i dont get why they cant design their laptops to be better looking. i mean their desktops look fairly good. Not great, but understandably stylish in that 'alien' sort of way that may appeal to gamers. I dont understand why their laptops are sooooo ugly. geez, put some of those 'alien' styles to it. right now it just looks like a big insanely heavy brick with flashy lights. its also HUGE. they might wana try make some sort of 'ultraportable gamer' machine.

Can't have all of that power in a small chassis. You aren't going to get an "ultraportable gamer machine" without it exploding.

The M17x looks nice to me. Sure it could look more "alien" like by having more sleek curves, but I don't mind either way.

really.. i think the m17x is way too bulky looking. It reminds me of those big grey boring office notebooks of decades past. only this one is not grey and apparently has some led lights

i think the m15x is oooookkkkkkkkkk~? could use some color themes on the case.

I don't understand why you're complaining about bulkiness... there is no way around that really... unless you want the hardware to fail. You're looking at a high performance notebook, one should never expect it to look like a macbook or whatever.

no bulkiness and size is different.

yes cause since alienware dont design most of the electronics themselves they have litle control and so if you want the best and you throw all the parts in a bag and its going to be big. thats ok.

but its just that i can imagine them doing better more outrageous 'alien' designs rather than just a rectangular block. ok so you can add that alien skullcap cover. but seems not very creative compared to what their whole branding concept/marketing was. Their branding concept and appeal had always appeared to me as being their style above their performance. Thats where most of the premium should be going to. I think they can make some improvements for the better in the style department of laptops.

The last time I checked, Alien ships have never been portable. And the only sleek alien object is a saucer. Every other Alien object is far from small or sleek.

Trolls - Don't trolls like small shiney objects?

Its a frikkin Laptop. You wont be getting the girls by owning one which looks "sexy".

    Like srsli.

High End Gaming laptops tend to be bulky due to the size of their components (were talking of a nb capable of QC, Sli, 2+ HDD etc) and the cooling system needed to regulate all these components. Hence the Clevo D901c and the AW M17x are not the most thinnest things on the block, but why do you care? If you care about looks, buy a 500$ mac on ebay/craigslist.

You come on here to the Alienware forum and tell a bunch of alienware owners and fans that their laptop designs suck. That's like going to the deep south and insulting Nascar, George Bush and Jesus. Them's fighting words! :p

Before my M17. I had an Apple Air (wife talked me into it), looked nice but ran like a pile of e, one of the cores kept on shutting down when overheating.

If you compare similarly speced systems, they're all bulky 2"+ machines in width and Alienware in my eyes seems to strike a good balance between professional and gamer. It something I can see myself take out in public and not be embarrassed to have it.

An example of cut and dry/no nonsense would be a Clevo model or Asus. They get the job done, nothing more nothing less.

If you want tacky.. just look at the old XPS 1730 model or Toshiba's Qoosimo (Fire red with flames all over it).

yea I agree. I dont think alienware laptops are tacky at all. its just not pretty. Then again youre paying a premium for alienware so at least give us a good looking product to go with it. its like their desktop lines. You can build your own pc with the same specs as alienware for a lot less. Why pay for alienware then? its the brand but also the case that entices people.

yes toshiba's tacky qoosimo is big time ugly.

For me it boils down to being unique.

I could get a comp from sager, xoticpc, prostar, etc, but they are ALL THE SAME!

So many people say over and over again you can build your own computer for less. Yes but not everyone is a geek like you and knows how to build a computer from scratch. Yes it costs more getting a computer from Alienware or any other company that will build your pc to your specifications because you are paying the extra cash for them to build it for you. They aren't going to build it for free. When you build a pc yourself your just paying for the parts when you get a computer from a company like Alienware you're paying for the parts and the cost of labour to build the computer.

    For me, yes.

Alienware has a team of designers that sits down and designs these systems.

Clevo is an ODM and, as anyone can clearly see, they do not put a premium in the design department :)

The one thing i don`t like about the M17x is the shape of the top of the lid, if they had done it similar to this i would have ordered one by now
