so my question is why arent we all using the 200m series drivers 195.62 or similar? my ebga precision says it has 188.55 installed which seems pretty old to me.
-
Dell for some reason is using an old version of both Intel and Nvidia for the drivers. Maybe for stability? Who knows.
Until there is a working solution to upgrade both to a new driver set while keeping the FN+F6 gfx switch feature, I am just gonna deal with what it has now. -
you could always install the dox optimized drivers. i'm using 195.62 on my m11x.
-
where did you get these drivers from?
-

@3dflyer88:
go here:
http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/26002-forceware-19562/page__p__125993&#entry125993?
when the page loads, the instructions are there in the box.
at the bottom of his first post, there are links: Download Links v1.1
get the one for windows 7 64bit.
up at the top there is: download patch HERE.
get the patch.
run the dox drivers.
once it extracts to your desktop cancel and close the setup.
extract the patch you downloaded into the Win7x64 folder.
it will overwrite a file.
now manually install the drivers:
get to device manager
(make sure you have the binary gfx ON)
right click the gt335m, select properties.
under the drivers tab, click update driver.
click browse my computer.
then let me pick from a list...
the click have disk.
point to the folder on your desktop.
select the nv_dispm.
it'll install.
Note: you will not be able to switch via fn+f6 BUT you'll be able to right click via the icon in the taskbar.
also, once installed, your screen might go completely black.
if this happens, just wait a few minutes, then power down your laptop.
once it restarts...BAM...you got switchable graphics, AND dox optimized drivers 195.62. -
is there a noticeable improvement with these
-
actually i've seen between a 3 and 5 fps increase. but it all boils down to your system i suppose
-
Seems odd that you can switch graphics using the system tray icon but not Alt-F6. It should be the same task executing.

This has the latest dox drivers just follow the instructions. There is a patch for hybrid drivers in there as well which will allow you to switch from integrated to dedicated. I dont think fn F6 works but you can right click on the desktop and switch. -
I can confirm this. I am running dox drivers, no F6 switching but the taskbar icon works just fine, and i was actually using that anyways most of the time lol.
-
Yeah these dox drivers are great, got about 3 fps more in Crysis.
-
Are the dox drivers affecting the battery life any? I look at my installation and wonder if both cards are running at the same time.
-
My battery says i have 7 hours and 45mins left. -
by binary graphics on do you mean the 335 on?
-
BinarGFX is just the term I think but it's the ability to switch between the integrated and the dedicated (335m).
EDIT: I also installed the dox drivers but decided to roll back to stock because the dox driver was causing lockups in Madden 08 and increasing my temperatures by 4-5C. -
if it means that I take a hit or integrated battery life, than no thanks.
-
-
this is all very interesting... I am running metro 2033 on my m11x and noticed it complains when u first launch metro 2033 a pop-up window jumps out saying that the NVIDIA drivers are too old, and it may cause system instability
!?! (Im on stock dell graphic drivers currently that came with it pre-installed). heck Im hoping the newer drivers may bump up the frame-rate, as this is a brand-new game!
so I am gonna give these DOX drivers a shot, now seeing that a good amount of people are reporting good results (`cept with madden 08 ... I didn't even know we had madden 08 on PC??!!).
many thanks for this thread, and everyone input -
Has anyone seen a noticeable improvement with Bad Company 2?
-
Just wondering, has anyone tried updating the Intel GMA drivers, or does no-one feel the need to?
-
-
Struggling to update mine. Windows keeps telling me that my drivers are up to date and it won't let me update. I've followed all the instructions to the letter. Anyone have an idea?
-
How often are the DOX drivers updated? 195.62 is still a bit old with the 197.xx drivers out now.
-
-
Guys.
After dox or any other hybrid drivers for that matter are installed try rebooting.
It doesn't work. The drivers work fine until you reboot. Unless you disabled the igp in the bios I don't think we can use any other drivers other than Dell 188's and expect decent battery life or compatibility. I really hope Dell wises up and configures 197s for the m11x -
I installed the 197.13's for some benchmarking, but other then that, I'll be removing them and putting my SSD back in.
-
So, I noticed that the new drivers have a big L4D and Warhead increase.
-
-
The M11x utilizes a technology Nvidia calls Hybrid Graphics. Hybrid Graphics requires a specialized set of drivers packaged in a specific way. These drivers include both Intel and Nvidia drivers in the same package.
As of right now your M11x has the second newest Hybrid Graphics drivers released. 188.80 was just released a few days ago for the new Vaio Z.
I have found the trick to getting newer drivers working on our Hybrid Graphics notebooks but there has been a GPU switching issue with all drivers above 191 series. -
got my Optix running on this machine finally!!
cheers! -
Hey!
i just noticed that even after restarting.. my fan is not stopping and the remaining time on battery is being shown as 3hrs 10 mins 89%
any1 facing this same shi#? -
I'll say it again even though I've said it before.
THE DELL DRIVERS ARE THE ONLY ONES THAT WILL ACTUALLY PROVIDE SWITCHABLE GRAPHICS.
DOX Drivers simply don't shut down the 335M, or something like that. They won't work as a permanent solution if you're interested in having 6 hours of battery life. -
-
-
As of right now Hybrid Graphics drivers above the 191 series do not switch properly. The latest Hybrid Graphics drivers are the ones found in my signature packaged by me. I have just released them so it is unknown if they have issues on the M11x.
I am the one who explained to Dox how to implement Hybrid Graphics in his drivers and the one that released the fix. At the time he released those drivers Dox did not know that drivers above the 191 series had these switching issues (or issues with Intel 2000 series drivers.) I did my best to fix the Hybrid Graphics portion of Doxs drivers as best as possible.
I doubt you will see very many Hybrid Graphics drivers released for the M11x. Your best options at using the latest nvidia drivers will be running the M11x in discrete mode or using optimus drivers.
Ironically my modified optimus drivers seem to be functioning on the M11x but seem to have the same power down issues with the nvidia part. ( proof here) -
do your custom drivers provide the standard m11x battery life?
-
- are you saying that yr latest modified optimus drivers function on the m11x, (meaning switching between the IGP/intel and discrete/nvidia enabled?)
- are you saying yr latest modified optimus drivers function on the m11x (meaning only the discrete/nvidia card will work?)
- or am I getting this part completely mixed up ... are you saying that yr latest optimus (instant switches between IGP/intel and discrete/nvidia without screen flash?!) driver, meaning the optimus switching (itself) from IGP to discrete/nvidia is working, on the m11x?!!
(I hope #1 is a yes, #2 is sss'all right - things r coming along... and #3 would be !! H01y 5h17!!)
no matter what the answer, thanks for the drivers so far, Im a fan -
Would be great if someone could figure out what the Dell driver is doing when it is powering down the Nvidia card (even if it's only after sleep/reboot). Basically, is there something like a simple power down command?
The other option would be a toggle in bios to only boot with integrated graphics, or discrete. So one could use the newest drivers for each card. Shouldn't be impossible, right? -
How it should work: (as seen in device manager)
Intel/Integrated/Stamina = Intel device seen under displays. Nvidia device not seen.
Nvidia/Discrete/Speed = Both Intel and Nvidia devices seen in device manager.
On most Hybrid Graphics notebooks there is an option in the bios to disable Hybrid Graphics and use discrete (nvidia) only. -
with the M11x, in BIOS u have 2 options ... SWITCHABLE = the ability to switch between intel and nvidia, or DISCRETE = only the nvidia is active.
I tried to install the drivers in EVERY POSSIBLE combination imaginable, via safe mode - booting SWITCHABLE, booting DISCRETE ... via normal boot - booting SWITCHABLE, and booting DISCRETE ... I completely removed all traces of drivers at every turn, and at every reinstall - I tried, and tried and tried, but no matter what, when I would boot into win7x64 with SWITCHABLE selected in BIOS, windows7 would utilitze its own intel driver with 1024x768 as max resolution available, and no option to switch to nvidia, no nvidia control panel, etc.... only upon selecting DISCRETEin BIOS, and booting win7x64 was I able to get NVIDIA video card to function, and grabbed a quick screen shot - here . there was no option to change to intel in the nvidia control panel, nor right-clicking on an icon was there an option to select which video card to launch the app with =( (in my understanding tho, that should be a given... as when booting win7 with BIOS set to DISCRETE, the intel is disabled, only the nvidia card is used)
if u end up releasing something new, I will try it out as well, as I am truly anxious to see the M11x working with optimus!thanks for all your work, I will definately be watching yr drivers progress closely
if u have any suggestions, feel free to send em my way!
-peace- -
an update to my last post. with guidance from Nautis, he was able to run me thru the install (personally!) of the standalone intel drivers, and the NVIDIA optimus drivers v189.42 using his modified INF file.
it was an involved process, so I figured I'd do him some good and maybe get some other people involved in testing and helping give him feedback by posting a HOWTO here. Nautis is definately onto something here, and has all my support! I was blown away to see the m11x running the optimus drivers... just too cool!
HOWTO: m11x + NVIDIA optimus v189.42 drivers using Nautis's modified INF
:: REQUIREMENTS ::
of note too: Nautis mentioned that he's now going to start working on removing the overlay and, hopefully the power issues - with the hopes of a 197.41 release on the horizon. /stoked
[ UPDATE] found something quite interesting running these drivers... I connected to a gateway XHD3000 via HDMI @ 1920x1200, and the output to the external is being controlled via the NVIDIA controller, yet the laptop's display is being controlled via the intel! no ... even better, when playing games OR ANYTHING thru my external display (which is being controlled thru NVIDIA) the OPTIMUS overlay is GONE! I can game 100% without the overlay with these drivers... I see I still have the ability via the NVIDIA control panel to tell each application which adapter to launch it with. screenshots should help convey what I meannotice no NVIDIA OPTIMUS overlay... same thing as when viewing it on the laptop display, while I have the external monitor connected as well.

benchmark still needs to be done.... I've been playing with back|track4 & CUDA lately, if u have a suggestion for benching it, shoot. I will try to do it for ya tonight or sometime very soon (( or if you are feeling daring, try it for yrself)).
fan issue? specifically what fan issue are u referring to? -
until we get word on how to turn of the 335m it wont work.
Always some issue with these computers.
why not the latest drivers for M11x 335m
