id really like to hear responses. lmk why also. thanks

QX9300 because it plays GTA IV better.
-
is that the only reason?? is that really worth the near double price point? just asking
-
nearly hands down, the qx9300 is what id order. it is quad core, and applications will soon fully utilize more than 2 cores, and it just has more potential. ive been hearing that this thing can make it up to 3.5ghz on a ocz whitebook, and there are actually numerous accounts that prove this. and even though the speed difference is 500mhz, the qx9300 has 4 cores, which theoretically would allow it to complete tasks faster, if they utilize all 4 cores, than the x9100, which would only have 2 cores, albeit a faster speed.
-
I agree. I'm looking for a qx9300. Any AW folks wanna trade for a x9100 lemme know.

LOL.. Mine is currently fully utilized by all programs. And not an ES. And, I'll sign it so when I'm famous u can resell it

I'd go for the quad-core, easily. Many games are already coded to take advantage of multiple cores, not just two. Games based on the Unreal III engine for example - Unreal Tournament III, Fallout 3, etc.
The 2.53GHz clockspeed of the QX9300 is more than fast enough for anything. -
For RTS games, would there be an advantage of getting a quadcore...? Like if i get the normal t9400 with the dual cards, would that be enuf for most RTS games?

With two days to go for my quad m17 to arrive, I'm enjoying reading threads like this
-
I look at it this way Most games use one core. but over time Games will work on dual core and quad core. It the people who make the games or software that are slow and Lazy. Look how long we had 64 bit hardware and dual core cpus.
If you want to be front lines go with quad core, that fine. By the time software take quad core we will be in 8 Cores or 16 core cpus.
That what I see. -

The most sensible answer to this recurring question needs to be made a sticky and locked off to further discussion. Seriously.
If the most sensible answer from a value standpoint isn't clear to the prospective buyer, especially if they can afford the QX and considering it's an overclock monster rightly capable of destroying even the best dual cores, then as far as I'm concerned those people are not very intelligent consumers and/or don't care for longterm value.

Chaz, you still doing the OCZ Review?

Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
Yeah - I am supposed to have it within the next two weeks . . . but we'll see. Just know it's coming.
Mine will have the QX9300 and dual ATI video cards.
Edit: the old Alienware M9750 was similar to the M17 in design - here's what I thought of it:

gotcha..I'll read through - Chaz, don't be affraid to use my drivers for any benchmarks/games. The 8.11 and less will not offer the same performance.
-
Chaz, are you allowed to use non-official mods and drivers for your tests and benchmarks?
-
It's official. Actually, it's WHQL
Only thing modded is the installation and resolutions, and performance.
-
thanks for making my point
would you order the m17 with the qx9300 or x9100 and why
