Hi I used to have an xps m1730 that broke over and over again so I was upgraded to the alienware m17x. I had spent 5 grand on a maxed out m1730 back in the day and so they had to give me a maxed out spec m17x as a replacement.

Today I was looking at the refurbished xps m1730's on the dell website and they are extremely cheap now! If I decided to buy another one and it kept breaking like my last one, will I get upgraded to another m17x???? If so that would mean I'm getting a 5,000 dollar alienware for the price of a 900 dollar 5+ year old xps m1730 as long as its covered by the warranty.

Its not worth it if they are just going to replace it with another refurbished system though...but if you do get upgraded to the m17x from a refurbished m1730 and are willing to wait long enough for tons of parts to break (which they will trust me!!! I had tons of stuff break on my m1730 and my tech guy coming to my house got so pissed off he had to come over every week that he got on the phone will dell and got me my alienware!) then this is the best deal you can get on an alienware m17x!

That sounds like intentional fraud and discussion relating to it is against the forum rules.

It is a valid question (as long as it isnt a suggestion). I'm sure Dell has some rules in place about customers buying refurb M1730's and NOT sending M17x replacements. One would hope Dell is smarter than that. I bet there are enough refurbs out there to replace it with another M1730.

it was just a question not a suggestion I already have an m17x and I dont need another one and I wouldnt want to go through all the trouble of having an m1730 break over and over again.

I just thought it would be weird if dell would give m17x's as replacements to the refurbished m1730's since it would be such a good deal on an m17x

I'm new to this forum so I dont know all of the rules sorry!

2 years ago, I bought a refurb 1730. Dell replaced it with a new M17x... twice. I guess that answers the question...

I also know 2 people who had the faulty M1730 and they got an XPS16, Dell refused to give them anything but.

    So nothing is garanteed
