no way...gotta let me friend know about this. great deal, but its kind of expected with a 30%+++ Decrease in price in just under two months......
-
Expected by an Apple customer, maybe. With most other companies, I would never expect something like this.
-
oh, of course...this is an apple forum right? =)
-
Nice! that's pretty awesome. Most companies have that 30 day window on returns for rebates on prices. Apple ftw!
-
I think this is pretty unprecedented, especially considering that those who bought an iPhone at the original price were generally the type that wouldn't get really mad at Apple. Now then...do you think I'll get the credit as well, even though I won mine?
-
-
Thats really kind of them. Nobody expected it, and it completely quells the complaints of the early adopters.
-
ROFL
-
I don't even have an iPhone and reading this makes me glad I bought my MBP because Apple is an awesome company.
-
Let's just hope Apple isn't too nice and turn out like IBM in the 90s.
-
Well the deal is a lot of people bought these on ebay, will not get their money, i bet you have to be the original buyer of the product, and with a reciept of proof??
If someone bought like 10 for ebay, they might not get all their money, apple might require them to show proof of activiation... it would not be fair for profiteers to get paid (my opinion)
But i think it was fair and needed to be done, good move on steve jobs end, and the fact he did it right before closing of the market, screwed a lot of people who were trying to make money on shorting the stock, this thing will increase tomorrow... long term is the way with this stock (not professional opinion)
But i look forward to seeing how this increases their revenue, and the number of members we get on this forum.. . -
basically this is a extremely smart move business wise. Especially since they just released new products. They made a nice profit from the iphone so even after giving 100 dollars back to the customer they still make a nice profit out of the early iphones. And since these iphone customers probably wont be buying new ipods (tho some will) they can use that money to buy accessories which means the money goes back to apple anyway and at the same time it makes 90% of the customers happy (10% will never be happy unless steve jobs himself gives them cash back on a silver plate) AND it makes future customers feel a bit more confident and happy on buying apple products from seeing this act of good will. Honestly tho i dont think they lose very much from this so chock up a point to Jobs and his business sense.
Side note: It takes about $281 dollars to make a iphone so when it was priced at $599 apple made about $318 profit. -$100 to that they still make a sizeable profit
they only made about $253 profit from the 4gb but from what i've read it wasn't as popular as the 8gb. -
-
In case some missed it, its $100 store credit I beleive.
-
yah its for apple retail store or apple online.
-
Not only about the store credit for the early iPhone buyers, but the new price drop on the iPhone actually makes it within the reach of many more customers. Smart move, Apple. Way to get the iPhone on the top of the media coverage again
.

I read on MacRumors that Apple has done this sort of thing before. News to me.
Aperture 1.0 e-coupon:

Microsoft did this when they extended warranties they went back and sent out reimbursement checks.
They also did this with the xbox in Europe after price drops. Sent out games and accessories.
This is definitely reactionary. It's still a good gesture, but i doubt it would have happened without the outcry.
This doesn't cost apple anything, very little at the apple store is 100 bucks -
-
Lets not get silly and think that either company thought about anything other than the bottom line
(I absolutely LOVE my 360 and my iPhone) -
I don't tend to be sympathetic with people who get angry about price drops, but this makes me want to buy an iPhone... I'm feeling a little warm and fuzzy. It's kind of creepy.
-
I think it's awesome that Apple actually did this although they certainly didn't have to. There's no law that says a company has to have a price guarantee past the return period and in Apple's case that would be 14 days.
One poster mentioned that Ebay purchasers were getting gypped on the $100 store credit offering. No they aren't. The seller on Ebay of the iPhone is the original purchaser and should be the one to get the credit so long as the receipt wasn't given to the Ebay purchaser. Apple and AT&T are the only companies that are allowed to sell the iPhone so buying on Ebay is buying it from a private owner and that's the risk you take. -
-
I didn't know people would get so upset about this. His tone also gave off a sense of apathy.
-
First of all, Apple needs to bring the iPhone to Canada (for me). But the problem is Canada's carriers, although nice (no crippling your services), are extremely overpriced. For an unlimited data plan it'd probably cost a few hundred a month
.
But even if the carriers drop their prices, I still won't get the iPhone, at least not the first generation. I just don't need all its features. I just need an iPod that can make phone calls. I don't need internet or email on my phone. So I'm waiting for the iPhone Nano. -
-
. Its not been confirmed, it hasn't been announced, but its bound to happen, sometime in the future.
I mean, there's no way Apple will continue to go along years ahead with just one phone in its lineup. There's no doubt Apple will release more versions of the iPhone later on, just as it did with the iPod. Of course, it may not be called the iPhone Nano, but there's certainly going to be a "not-so-smart" iPhone in the future, if Apple wants to sell 10 million iPhones in 2008. -
i just did a little research on the "iPhone Nano" and it seems to be the exact equivalent to the iPhone besides the size of the actual device and the "circular motion" wheel within the touch screen. Anyways, from the pictures i saw, it still had icons for "web" and "mail" features which you mentioned you could do without.... Anyways, it looks like an awesome phone - i wasn't too motivated to switch from Verizon to AT&T and also pay an additional $400 for an iPhone because i personally want a smaller phone, but the iPhone Nano seems to fit my every need considering i love all the features the iPhone has to offer, i just want the smaller version.
-
. Nothing you read about right now is official, unless directly from Apple. Although lately 9to5Mac has been really accurate in Apple rumours.
-
<$100. On that note, you'll end up having to spend your own money in addition to your store credit so either way Steve Jobs is still making money off of all this. I mean, you may get some credit yay but Steve is still getting money from giving you store credit so it really wasn't that generous -
