Hi , my dad just bought a 2.4 white mac with 2 gb ram , well i must say he hasnt got much of it as imm completely hooked :D !.He is getting me a mac as well . I quite liked the black one but its a rip off :( ... the guy at the store said he has a five day old black macbook (old stock) (2.2 with 4 gb ram 160gb and remote,) which i can get for the price of the better white macbook (2.4 ghz 2 gb ram ). I get a full bill and waranty and everything for the 5 day old one . Is it a good deal or should i go for white brand new with the faster processor (2.4),will the 4 gb ram of the old with 2.2 make up for it performance wise? the dealer also said that the old stock 2.2 has a better battery life is this true?
Thanks a lot in advance :) imm new to macs help would really be appreciated.

In my experience most people don't need 4GB of memory. The difference in the CPU is very small, hardly worth mentioning. If you want the remote and it seems in good shape, that's the way I'd go.

Ordinarily, I'd say take the RAM, but...

In this case, you can't just compare the clock speeds because the old stock blackbook is Merom while the new 2.4GHz is Penryn. Different cores.

Penryn should get better battery life, but that may be cancelled out (wholly or partly) by the clockspeed difference... I don't know.

Still, it shouldn't be all that much different. I say just get whichever color you like. :)

is the blacbook new? just old stock right? wow, with 3 year warranty and such, that is a good deal :) i'll pick that one thanks.

beware that the 2.4 peryn macbook has slightly better perfomance over the old 2.2 one. battery life and heat might be similar because of the increase clockspeed of the 2.4 peryn.

I had the same dilemma as you while shopping for a laptop (2.1 w/ 4gb vs 2.4 w/ 2gb). I decided to go for the latter when my brother mentioned to me that you can always add more RAM to your laptop but you can't do anything about your processor anymore. :)

but you do get top of the line black macbook that is more resistance to dirt and scratches (altough, you do say good bye to the iconic white colour macbook).

the old stock also has the remote included in the purchase. with new marketing it is a seperate purchase.

old stock means old stock or refurbished? brand new right? if it is not brand new. it is not worth it.

Great choice, adding ram is cheap and easy, upgrading a cpu is considerably more difficult due stock and such. Besides, if you look around there are a bunch of guides of how to paint your laptop, and have it be as good as a pro. GL

Thanks a lot for the quick replies guys :) , will there really be much of a difference between the two processors ? I mainly be using it for the usual web surfing instant messaging and the ocassional cd/dvd ripping/backup?I really dig the black one :D . I will be starting college soon and I think the black will be more resistant to the daily grind (finish and scratch wise)...plus the remote .. all imm scared about is that i hope nothing went horribly wrong with it in the five days the previous guy owned it

old stock as in the discontinued one (2.2 ghz blacbook with remote as compared to the new 2.4 ghz black book without remote) and yes its a five day old used by a customer who returned it and went in for an air ,but I am buying it through the dealer so i get a proper bill and full warranty . the piece has no blemishes/scratches whatsoever.

No, there won't be too much. On a basic level, the faster will perform better, inherently. If you do not render or push your laptop to the brink of lock up, you will be ok with either. I would say go with the Penryn version for better battery, less heat, and such. Not sure which is which, or even if one is P. Just get the one you like best, you cannot go wrong with the stuff you are looking at.
