HELP !
Ok so Ive been messing about with Macs Fan Control. When on Auto, the fan will do nothing until the temp gets to about 98 degrees then its 6000rpm but that does nothing once its that hot.
Im not sure whats causing the CPU to get hot though as Im just web browsing. Could it just be bad thermal paste? The kernel is only taking up 5% cpu max. Memory does get maxed out by web browsers because since el capitan osx doesnt like unused RAM, which i think was a dumb move. but anyway, doubt ram is the cause of the heat.
Im pretty sure its just the fans driver not working well with the temp sensor.
11, 13 MBP i7 4GB Ram, 5400rpm HDD
Any advice?

open her up, change the thermal paste, reset pram.

So you think its just thermal paste causing the fan miscommunication? I reset my pram and sram before, did nothing. Was going to try Win 10 to see how that ran.

windows on mac laptop will make it run hotter
paste is bad, I would replace that first -

The 15-inch version with dGPU yes, but the OP has a 13-inch, which has the intel IGP, so it will run little, if any warmer. However, the advice to change out the thermal paste is sound. -
yep, just using arctic paste, no need to go spending big bucks?
why does the fan wait until it gets to 95 degrees before it jumps from 2000 to 6200rpm though? does my head in. i use mac smcfan to manually control it now and leave it at 2900 rpm and never gets above 70.
i got 8GB ram coming, i know i should have got 16, oh well, I can always make it 12 one day. and an SSD.
i might just get another 2 years out of this POS yet? -
I don't see why not. I have a x220 tablet (same hardware as your MBP) and it runs just fine using a 128gb ssd and 16gb of ram. Apple's fan profiles are retarded, always have been, always will be. they sacrifice reliability and thermal performance for the sake of quietness. repaste is your best bet, reset SMC/pram.electrosoft likes this.

Ok I applied thermal paste about 18 hours ago and man, I have it on my bed and its still sitting at 49 degrees, WOOT. I also set Macs Fan Control to Core 1, to start fan ramping at 50 degrees and not to let cpu get above 70
Now if I could just fix this SSD :-(
'11 MBP, overheats when fan on Auto, any ideas?
