I decided to upgrade to leopard, so i erased my hd clean, albeit leaving the XP, 30 gb partion untouched, and upgraded. When it installed, it says:
Macintosh HD:
Capacity: 117 GB
Available: 84.48 GB
Untitled:
Capacity: 31.73 GB
totaling to around 149.05 GB
the funny thing is, I have a 250 gb harddrive.
I ran disk utility, and it found no problems, so.... what the hell is going on
-
Are you sure you have a 250gb hard drive? Your sig says 160gb, which would make 149.05gb total make sense. Are you a bit confused?
-
I don't follow. Where exactly are you saying 100GB is gone? Looks to me like your MAC partition is 117GB and installing Leopard used up around 32GB. Does Leopard really take up that much space?? I don't know since I don't have a MBP yet. But then you have your other 30GB XP partition which if you add to the 117GB would give you 147GB and that's about what a 160GB hard drive is after it's partitioned.
-
no, system requirement for Leopard is only 9 GB so there's no way it can take up 32GB.
-
His sig says that he has a 250 GB harddrive.
-
Just wanted to mention that I'm pretty sure there aren't any 2.5 7200RPM 250GB laptop harddrives yet.
You're either using the 200 GB 7200 RPM or a 5400RPM 250GB.
No offense to OP, but I think you might have been confused about the size of your HDD. -
Hmmm...i didnt know they made 250s at 7200 rpms for laptops...
Or he could have a 160 at 5400 especially seeing as those arent exactly rare. -
Well, I wanted to give him either the 250 or the 7200 RPM. Not that it's particularly important.
-
I think he has a 160 because his sig said it was 160 til he changed it....that makes things look a bit shady.
-
So ill offically put on my dumba$$ hat, my sig should say Hitachi 200GB 7200rpm
-
I'm a bit confused too, because if he had to upgrade to Leopard, he has to have one of these then if his speed is correct; http://support.apple.com/specs/macbookpro/MacBook_Pro_Mid_2007.html
He'd have to pay to upgrade it, and more than likely didn't. (It would also be 4200RPM!) -
http://support.apple.com/specs/macbookpro/MacBook_Pro_Late_2007.html
optional 200GB 7200-rpm -
Does apple have hidden partitions that they put on their laptops?
-
a 200gb hard drive isnt exactly 200gb my 160gb is really 149gb
there was a thread here somewhere about what your hard drive space is really like -
Yea, the odd thing is that his 200 GB's 149, which sounds more like the 160 GB HDD.
I haven't heard of the Mac OS mysteriously devouring huge amounts of space. Good luck solving this. -
lol We've gone from thinking he has a 160gb drive to a 250gb drive to now a 200gb drive. The greatest mystery to solve is just what hard drive he for sure has.
-
You also said you had to upgrade to Leopard, so you DO NOT have a late 2007 MacBook Pro.
-
The most logical answer would be that he has 160...especially if Modly is right.
-
Except late 2007 model MBP did not come with Leopard installed.
But yeah, sounds like he has a 160 gb drive. -
I don't see why it wouldn't come with Leopard, they released the late 2007 models in November (two weeks after Leopard came out). Maybe they didn't, but you do see why I'd think they would.
100 Gb gone?
