What are the Main differences between the MAC with the 128Mb 8600M GT and the other with the 256M GT?

The main difference? The 256 MB 8600M GT has 128 MB more VRAM compared to the 128 :p. So you see how the 128 MB 8600M GT has 128 MB of VRAM, and the 256 MB has double (128+128) the VRAM.

128MB is also no enough for many games coming up now. But those nit04 posted are all old games that uses "32 minimum. 128 recommanded". Just look at post 2005 games and the difference will be way bigger.

I actually don't believe this comparison - old games, low resolution, stock drivers... And testing under OS X where there are no optimized drivers?

better check out this thread -

Well, besides the obvious difference that one is twice as larger as the other. The secondary main difference would be that the 256MB is more future proof as more and more games require 256MB or even 512MB of memory. After all, a few years a go computers were offered with 32MB, 64MB, and 128MB. Which one of those performs better today?

If you're serious about gaming, there's no excuse for going with the 128MB. Go with 256MB and enjoy.

Didn't see that thread as being much better since it only has 1 direct comparison between the two models that isn't synthetic. I will concede that the link I posted isn't a good predictor of performance with newer games but I don't know of any other benchmark online comparing the two models.

yes, not that much better but barefeats actually implies that there's virtually no difference between the two models
