whats goin on everybody...
Considering my interests for a new Aluminum 13in macbook.. i was wondering if anyone knew or heard of upcoming updates, revisions or fixes to the 13in macbook. Perhaps apple will make some revisions to the screen, or other issues that may be on the current aluminum macbook. Should i get it now, or wait until some future upgrades or price drops? Thanks
-
No revisions are expected for quite some time. There's another thread close to the top somewhere talking about this further.
-
There's just been a major revision. so no update in the near future
-
expect a speed bump ~summer.
-
They could release a minor <s>speed bump</s> update to fix things such as the battery door, and maybe better screens. I could see that.
Edit: oops, meant to say update and not speed bump.
-
If Apple would actually fix that piece of junk they call a screen, I'll strongly consider getting a MacBook for my sister when she heads off to college.
-
As I said before, if the screen is as good as the white macbook, then I honestly don't see what the problem is. I can't understand why people are expecting a macbook pro quality screen in their "budget" line. For me anyway, the screen in my white macbook is leaps and bounds better than the Dell Inspiron I had, so I'm happy.
-
Why is the macbook the budget line?
-
Because it's the cheapest apple notebook you can get. For professional video/audio editors, you generally want to get the macbook pro. With the macbook pro, you get a firewire 800 port, dedicated video card, and LED screen. The macbook has none of those, and is considered more "entry level" (but is an awesome machine nonetheless
).
-
the macbook is led, bubs. and 1300 is not an entry level price.
-
Basically what he said.
Well, not exactly. The one I got was the 1500 2.4GHz model. -
I've compared the screens between the old white book and the new alu, and the the alu is just a little bit better, but essentially about the same.
BUT there were very few complaints about the screens on the old plastic mb's... and the price on those was about the same as the alu ones are now.
Thus I think the real problem now is that because the mb and mbp look the same, people expect the same. For the average user the screen is leaps and bounds over what they got 5 years ago on a laptop... and that is all that is gonna matter for them, cause that was probably about the time they picked up there first dell laptop from there friends brother.

ps no updates until at least "back to school" -
The aluminum macbook is at its mid product life cycle. Updates wont come for at least another 3-4 months. You can expect the usual speed bumps and minor fixes. I doubt they will change the screen, but we can all hope.
Speaking of the screen, it is pretty much the same panels as the previous generation macbooks with better backlighting. This is why it looks slightly better. The problem with the macbook's display is that at certain angles, the colors shift to a silver hue that just distorts the picture. People will argue that "no one will use the macbook at those angles." However, it doesn't take much repositioning of the macbook or yourself to make the macbook's colors to shift. And people looking over your shoulder to view the screen will also see the color shifting problems. -
It is with Apple notebooks. Just like $35,000 is entry level for a new BMW. "Entry Level" is a scalable term. So using it in the context that Talin did is acceptable.
-
$999 is the entry level price. The $1600 model still has the same cheap screen.
-
Yeah, I think you are forgetting about the updated whitebooks. Your 'scale' is off.
-
Don't expect price drops from Apple!!!
-
i might consider saying benz as apple if you have to compare, since most of the time apple will ship with a faster cpu(more horsepower), but sluggish video card (not as good performance). and much buffed price
but again, there isn't too many big brands(with style) that comes with a really good video card, it's a shame
13in. MACBOOK model updates..
