Hello
What do you think, will Apple release an Updated 17'' MBP Next Week?
And if so, what do you think about the GPU they use an the possibility of an Blu Ray Drive?
Regards

blue ray is a "bag of hurt" .. so nopes dont think any possibility of a blue ray drive
-
Yes, Jobs said that at the Release of the Unibody Macbooks. But wasn't the 17'' MBP delayed because of Problems with the Display and the Optical Drive? So why should they have Problems with the Optical Drive if they use the same Drive as in the other Macbook's? -
maybe he meant "to implement blu ray is a bag of hurt for us".
-
the tech with blu-ray isn't a bag of hurt, it is the licensing fees, that was specifically said.
maybe this could happen?:

I have seen rumors of possible Quad Core as well, that would be wonderful, at any rate, I really hope to see the 17" at MacWorld, as I have been patiently waiting. -
non removable battery? thats gonna suck.
-
Did you even read any of the articles? If what is rumored is true I am all for it, bring on new technology.
-
Sounds not that bad
-
I really hope Apple will announce a new 17" MBP with a Q9000.
-
yeah,I didn't get why they make it such a big deal!I never changed a battery on a notebook...especially on 17"!Someone said-"what if it dies on business meting or in airport"
1)how many times have that happened with you?
2)how many times you had a spare battery with you? -
well the whole point of this is that with a Silver-Zinc battery, or whatever it is, there is almost no chance of even normal wear for atleast 5 years, which is much longer than the standard usable life of an average computer, in terms of being completely outpaced by current technology.
Having a battery that you wouldn't have to worry about for 5-years, lasts longer, and is much much safer than the current, lithium-ion, I am all for that.
I have never met any person that even owns 2 or more battery's for their notebook, let alone actually would make good use of them. It isn't a big deal, even with current lithium-ion, and especially not with what is mentioned in the rumors. -
If they have an extended life battery I am going to get one ASAP. And I wasn't even in the market for a new MBP until I heard that
Not user removable is a non-issue IMO. Why would you need a user removable battery? Two reasons:
1 - You want to replace your battery with a new one when the old one dies. Well that still works the same except now Apple installs it for you. Big deal.
2 - You want to carry around 2 batteries. As the owner of 2 batteries for my MBP, let me tell you why you don't: If you work mobile all day, drain both batteries, then you need to charge them both when you come home. You need to remember to swap after 3 hours or so when the first one is charged.
Is that something I want to spend my time with every day? Definitely not. It's a lot easier to carry the power adapter and plug in wherever I can. Which is what I am doing now.
One high capacity battery is way more useful -
I have two batteries. I thought I'd be carrying #2 with me and swap. But I now know that I'll never do that, it's just too impractical. See above.
-
^even more impractical when we talk about 17" notebook!it isn't meant to be a road-warrior notebook!
-
With business notebooks from other companies, the notebook can be docked into a docking station. There is also a slot on the docking station for charging of a spare battery. Basically, you can charge two batteries at the same time. Apple does not offer this solution.
If you are a user who would never buy a second battery, Apple's "rumored" decision would not affect you. I hate having parts that are not easily user replaceable though. If you have a defective battery on the notebook, it would be more of a pain to fix as trips to the Apple store would be required. However, it is cool Apple will use newer battery technology. I just wonder how expensive the battery is versus the traditional lithium ion/polymer. -
I have a big backpack. And I can sure use the screen real estate
I was close to getting a 17" last time but then decided that HD was too hard to read and the non-HD display didn't have much over the 15". Going to go with HD now. Admittedly I haven't had a 17" so we'll see how much of a pain it's going to be to lug around.
-
it isn't much heavier than the 15" overall, 6.8lbs is very light for such a large machine, although the footprint is the big issue for most. It is perfect for me, as I need to move the computer around, but I am never constantly taking it with me.
the HD screens are phenomenal, the highest PPI of nearly any screen out there. -
Awesome machine! I would like to go down to the Apple Store to check this thing out sometime!
-
I don't think there is anyway that Apple will possibly make a 17" MacBook Pro. . .
You people are all dreamers ^_^
